Looking for Help in Organizing a Keeper League

Hey, I was just wondering if Yahoo has any keeper league settings.

Some buddies and I wanna make a keeper league next year, and we\'re wondering if yahoo supports a Dynasty option so to speak.

Our plan\'s are to keep it relatively simple, with 18 man rosters, and 12 man keeper list.

So...can Yahoo support this kinda thing?

would yahoo keep track of the keeper lists and such?

you can always use yahoo as the meat and potatoes of your league and create a lil website using yahoo geocities to keep track of offseason things like which keepers belong to which team and so on ....

even a free message board service can act as a seperate lil homepage for your league to keep track of things yahoo may not during the offseason

hm...that sounds like a plan
i was just curious what keeper options yahoo had.

i was already leaning to the idea of the Comish keeping track of transactions, and the such.

only hard part is figuring out how to draft.

would yahoo be able to have a draft, were certain players could not be chosen?

You cannot (as commish) tell yahoo NOT to include certain players.

However...what I did this past season was have every person in the league, place every other team\'s keeper players on a \"Do Not Draft\" list. This prevents players from being picked up if someone is unable to show up to the draft.

Also, each manager would have to move thier keepers to the top of the \"Draft These Players Order List\". This ensure\'s that yahoo will draft those players first if the manager is unable to make it to the draft.

Although, once you get up into a higher number of keepers, the odds of screw ups is greater. Therefore I\'m looking into other sites that can host a live draft where players can be removed, then entering the draft results manually into yahoo.

We\'re in the same boat with our Yahoo League. We\'ve run a Yearly league for eight years and want to move into a Keeper type format. We\'d like to be able to trade draft positons as well but unfortunately, I don\'t think Yahoo allows us to change the draft rotations for each round. Once the draft is set if I\'m in the first draft position I stay there for the whole draft, but I\'d like top be able to trae this 1st round pick for 2 2nd round picks, but you can\'t do that in alive Yahoo draft. We can\'t hold an off-line draft because we\'re spread out right across Western Canada. Anyone have ideas or suggestions on how we can do an on-line draft whereby the Commish can slot team managers picking-orders into each round?

I recently sent an email to Yahoo to ask if they had keeper leagues and this is the response I got:

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Sports.

I appreciate your interest in keeper leagues.

At this time, we do not formally offer leagues of this nature, but we are looking into adding keeper leagues to our offerings in the future.

Custom League commissioners who wish to run a keeper-style league can do so informally using our current system. To accomplish this, the commissioner may invite existing owners to return to a future league. Each manager may then designate a specified number of players to \"keep\" for the following season.

After all managers have joined the new league, the commissioner may run an offline draft to populate rosters with the players that have been retained by their previous managers. The remainder of the picks entered by the commissioner will be the result of a supplemental draft, also completed offline.

As Yahoo! does not formally support leagues of this nature, all private \"keeper-style\" league matters must be addressed to and handled by the Custom League commissioner.

VERY interesting...I think they see the need since there is a higher percentage of \"hardcore\" fans to total fans when it comes to hockey...but baseball and football could gain a stronghold for keeper leagues too.

I\'d like to see some evidence of this from yahoo!

mxpx - look into www.mockdraft.com. I\'m going to as well but it\'s always hard to figure out what is and isn\'t doable from the sales pitch they throw at you.

I\'ve looked at mockdraft.com. I can\'t tell if it let\'s you run a partial keeper style draft or not (my league doesn\'t keep a full team).

I\'m in for a dry run at some point to see how well it works...after all...it is free.
