A number of these Dman questions popping up lately, but I agree with Elliott right now.
Some good discussion here: http://www.dobberhockey.com/index.ph...d.php&t=106102
I think Murphy will be solid but I'd go with Elliott.

You're clearly an Avs fan and that's just one of the reasons you should go with Elliott. Others include him being much more NHL ready and possessing higher upside, as well as stepping into a more favorable situation with EJ/Stastny/Duchene/Landeskog and eventually a guy like Joey Hishon.

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."
Stefan Elliott clearly wins this summer's trophy for "most different spellings of a name."
Oh yeah, he gets my vote in this poll too.

Elliott clearly will have the greater opportunity, and in fantasy that is crucial especially for a young kid, so I agree with the other posts on this one.

I have our dear Angus to thank for triggering me to get Elliott on both my keeper farm teams about mid-season last year. I would not trade him for Murphy staight-up right now.
I agree that Elliott is the right pick here because of opportunity and NHL ETA. However, when I see this:
I need to speak up. I'm certainly not meaning to call out dmvincent in particular here... just want to provide a counterpoint to a hype machine that seems to be getting a bit out of control.Originally Posted by dmvincent
Murphy has elite upside, though certainly less chance that he'll meet it given the challenges that small guys can have. Elliott has never shown elite upside in my opinion: he'll be a 50 point guy at the top-end if he translates his game to the NHL... but the chances of him translating it are much higher.
So:
Upside: Murphy
Opportunity: Elliott
"Pan-out" Likelihood: Elliott
Hope this helps.

Was reading this thread and about to chime in when I read HPG's post which describes exactly my thoughts on these two. Murphy - higher risk and higher reward. Elliott - lower risk and lower reward. Choose according to your disposition.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.
I think Elliott is the smart choice here. Murphy is more gifted offensively but Elliott is more of a sure thing and will step into a better role.
