    Default Draft Trade offer

I currently own the 1st overall pick for the team in the sig below. I was offered this trade

1st overall pick and Jonathon Ericsson

    for

5th overall pick, Brooks Laich and Dmitri Orlov.

1st overall pick will probably be RNH and the 5th overall being Couturier/Hurbedeau or maybe Landeskong. Am I crazy for not taking this deal or is RNH that much of a step above the draft class?

Tough one, I'd probably reject this deal.
As a Wings fan I don't see Ericsson having much of a fantasy impact, he's a solid dman but in no way will he contribute offensively. Orlov seems like he's going to be up with the Caps next year and he will make an impact, his hockey IQ and hard shot (not to mention size/strength) make him a player bound for success. Laich is a solid 60-65 point player and who's to say Landeskog, Strome or Couturier won't be close to RNH?

With all the good words about Orlov and Laich, you think I should still reject this deal?

It's hard for me to tell you to make this.

Is Orlov a good prospect? Definitely. But at present he's buried behind some steller dmen ahead of him.

Laich is a middle forward. No real upside past mid 60's.

All i've looked into says that RNH is an elite level passer. And i dont mean just a good passer i mean elite true elite. You put that on the EDM team that has the pieces we all know about already and mix in a helping of chemistry and a bit of size and you could be looking at the beginnings of something beautiful for EDM hockey.

I dont think i could pass up that player for what you're being offered here.

I'd stick with RNH and look to pick up a good solid prospect like McNabb if he's around to replace the mostly useless eriksson.

Don't do this trade. If you're really open to moving the 1st overall pick, it should fetch you way more that that offer any year......

In short, there should be a better deal out there.

    Cheers.

I would never consider that deal. Never, ever. If I am giving up the first overall pick in any year I want something more than Laich and Orlov, even if I also get the 5th back.

I was trying to figure out which GIF would be appropriate where I can add a little punch line and I figured that one would be ideal. Again NikW71, I prefer the other side if this deal, not the side with 1st overall and Ericsson.

NikW - is Laich a LW in your league or only a C?

I wish I could weigh in for certain.
I don't know the difference between what the #1 & #5 draft picks will put out. There is some good knowledge on DobberHockey that might help you predict their outputs - I'm not your guy for that.

That said, if they are within 15pts (say #1 is a 70pt guy, #5 is a 55pt guy), then I like this deal for you. Your league is DEEP.

16 teams x 6 defensemen = 96 D. Wow. Orlov should have good value in this pool in a couple years.
16 teams x 12 forwards = 192 F. Again, wow. I like what Laich brings, he gets net-front time on WAS's PP... and that's just token points in a Holmstrom way.

In a 12-team league, starting 6F 4D, I'd say no way on the deal.
In a 16-team league, starting 12F 6D, I think Orlov & Laich has good value.

I like the deal for you if the difference between the #1 & #5 draft picks is less than 15pts per year. (Why: I think Orlov/Laich will bring you back those 15pts+ over what would be your #12F and #6D.)
