    Default Flyers Goalie Playoff Preview

It's that time of year, boys and girls. Fantasy hockey is all but done for the year, but the School of Block is still in session! Here's the first of a ton of playoff insight and analysis.

The Curious Case of Michael Leighton

A playoff preview of Flyers goaltending. Enjoy!

Bob better hang tough if he gives up a goal over the shoulders. Otherwise it could be big trouble in Philly. But at least the Flyers have an ace in the hole now.

Bobrovsky has been terrible lately, specifically last and tonight. It seems he's lost all confidence. Maybe they opt for Boosh instead in the first round?

Peter Laviolette made a TERRIBLE, BRUTAL decision to pull Bobrovsky in a 3-3 game yesterday. Not only do you NEVER pull a goalie in a tied game, but ESPECIALLY a rookie goalie that you publicly labeled the starter for the playoffs.

If bobrovsky's confidence was waning before that game, it's totally shot now. That's a terrible decision by Lavi, and he shouldn't have started that game to begin with.

They brought up Leighton for depth, but never gave him any game minutes, when they had at least two games to do so. Now they go into the playoffs with a rookie lacking confidence, a backup that hasn't been playing well and a 3rd string goalie that isn't yet acclimated to NHL action.

    Brutal management.

Healy also brought up the fact that Bobrovsky has never played more than 35-36 games in a season. He's played 50-plus this year. Have to wonder if his durability is part of the issue here.

I still stick to my guns. Bobrovsky is better off coming off the bench in the playoffs. If he gets beat over the shoulders by vanek or Gerbe or another one of Buffalo's snipers, it could be a long series for the Flyers.
