I'm not so sure I would do either trade to be honest. I think your defense is quite young and good as it is, and I like Stewart and Ryan better than Marleau or Couture now and in the future. Don't forget, before his injury, Stewart was tearing up the league and is one of the premier power forwards in the NHL. Ryan is having a down year but is a future 80-85 point player who is only 23. I like him better than Couture. It would be nice to get your hands on Pietrangelo, but I wouldn't want to give up Stewart or Ryan for the upgrade.

JJ is the only really solid player worth trading Stewart of Ryan for.
I would try and get someone else besides Marleau or Couture; otherwise stick with them.
Also, I would rather keep Ryan over Stewart.

The trade from a distance looks good. However the problem is that your D is solid and young. So getting JJ, Pietrangelo doesn't really help you as you will have to drop 2 other solid D.
SO its basically Marleau & Couture for Stewart/Ryan and I'd pass on that. If you wanted to trade one I'd trade Stewart.
