Now vs. future - which side wins?

Hey guys,

I'm contending in my pool (details in sig) sitting in 4th trailing mostly in goals and assists only and I've got the following offer from a tanking team:

His BRichards ($12), Lecavalier ($22), Lucic ($4) & Recchi ($4)
for
My Eberle, Tarasenko, Markstrom & Hedman

All of the players that I would be giving up are farm eligible and can be protected without counting against our $100 cap.

Both Richards and Lucic would get serious consideration as protectable players - Lucic for sure would be kept at that salary.

Who wins the deal?

I personally wouldn't do it. Eberle and markstrom are gonna be future studs for sure. Hedman too for that. Tarasenko will take longer to be worthwhile.

While I understand that adding these guys will give you a push, you have to realize that now that kovalchuk is beginning to produce, that is basically an added player to your team in itself.


I am not opposed to selling some future to win now, but I would try and seek a smaller deal. Maybe try and get just one of Richards or Lucic. And attempt to do it without giving up eberle or markstrom. I assume they will have cheap salaries in your league.

Funny you should mention it, I've been trying to scale down the deal for just Richards and Lucic. And the other team isn't biting.

As for the rookie salaries, yes they are all cheap. All the skaters are $5 and Markstrom's at the league minimum of $3.50.

I would balk at the deal then. I would give it another couple of weeks. See where your team goes. See if kovalchuk can still produce like the past 5 games.

Then see if you still need to sell the farm to win. Also at that point, more teams could be sellers which could lead to a lesser deal and keeping eberle. Which I would do. I mean he is producing huge for his salary count in that league.
