I guess it really depends on how much he signs for, but does anybody see him getting past the Islanders? According to Tripel, NYI is first on the waiver wire and they have 11.8 mil in cap space. Unless it is a ridiculous contract, why wouldn't they claim him?
Rylant
I figure the Islanders have enough goalies as-is. Don't they roster 3 regularly or something? It would be a pretty pointless signing for them. Not going anywhere this year.

For yahoo leagues: If Nabakov gets entered into the system he goes on WAIVERS. He's not just magically an FA and whoever sees him first gets him.

On CBS where I play they still have Tyson Nash and Jaromir Jagr so obviously Nabakov is available as well...one of my donkey friends drafted Nabakov like an idiot in my cash league with his 1st round pick which was of significant amusement...he then drafted Nittymaaki 5 or 6 rounds later which was pretty humorous as well since at the time Niemi was supposed to be the outright starter in San Jose so the kid blew his first round pick on another top 8 pick on two SJ non-starters...Nitty ended up working out for him, but I gave him the heads up that nabakov may return as a chance to redeem himself....shitty part with Yahoo though is they often don't even add guys mid-season until after they've already played their first NHL game which is a big disadvantage to those looking to make a heads-up play on him
It is unlikely that Yahoo will add him before he signs with a team.
It's different if he was on a team this year and then was waived - they wouldn't take him off the system, just put an NA next to this name, and then change the team.
However, he has no NHL team so he's not in the system at all, so they can't tag/link him to any team so how can he be added? I don't expect that to change until he signs with someone.
It would be smart for the Isles to sign, then trade him....At least get a couple of young prospects for him..... Tampa NEEDS him - so they'll pay for his services.

Doesn't really work that way. Tampa can always outbid Isles for his services and risk losing him to waivers. I'm sure Tampa's owner is willing to spend more to Nabokov than Wang is and Nabokov would probably also prefer Tampa over Islanders. If Tampa signs him I can't see Islanders even taking him from waivers. First of they don't need him. Second they can't probably afford him due to an internal budget and cheap owner . Thirdly they couldn't trade him if they pick him from waivers without putting him back to waivers before it.

just one more reason Yahoo sucks donkey balls...why remove him at all? Why not leave all players in the system until they've been out of the NHL for 3 yrs or something? Just flag em as "Inactive" or something so people know but otherwise this makes no sense. Now whoever happens to have that #1 waiver priority will snap him up, its all around lame IMO
The thing no one has brought up yet is: "is he even worth a pickup in your league?" Probably, I know in one of my Yahoo H2H leagues there are no goalies to speak of on the FA list so in that case it would be a definite yes. But in smaller leagues or leagues with fewer goalie positions I don't think he's a lock by any means. IMO his NHL numbers were always a reflection of him being a system goalie and playing behind a team with solid defense, good size and the ability to score lots of goals themselves, I don't think from a pure talent perspective he was ever a tier one goaltender...just look at his lackluster play in the playoffs, the Olympics and in the KHL and imagine how that might translate on a team less defensively minded? TB for instance is the worst in the league in GA right now (and they've been in the bottom 5 for the past 3 seasons), be careful what you wish for gentlemen
