Default Mike Richards vs Bobby Ryan

    Hey ladies and gentlemen,

I currently have Mike Richards and someone is offering Bobby Ryan for him, what you guys think of that trade?

    It's a 2pts/goal and 1pt/assist pool.

First off welcome to the boards. Tough call. Does your league use positions? If it does that helps Ryan. If not than Richards is an easy choice. A lot of it depends on your needs and if positions matter, if they do then take Richards.

    Welcome to the boards!

It really boils down to whether you differentiate forwards by specific position or if you just play straight forwards.

Thanks for quick reply, the league is not using positions.

Oh then it's gotta be Richards. You know he's good for 30 goals and is much more proven. Looks like he's on his way to another 80 point year too. Ryan on the other hand is looking a little inconsistent for my liking.

I'd have to go with Richards in that case.

He's proved to be the heart and soul of the Flyers and also one of their top offensive threats.

Ryan has immense talent but seems inconsistent and gets bounced around from line to line. This would be a much tougher question if he was always with Getzlaf and Perry.

I think with the way Richards is playing your going to have to go with him. Ryan is very good don't get me wrong, but not "Mike Richards good."

Ryan is often over hyped I see him as a perrenial 35-35 guy and Selanne's stellar play along with Fowler eergence on the blueline has taken a sizeable chunk of his PP time away which will take his ceiling this season down quite a bit...definitely would take Richards as he is at least a 30-45 option this season with even some upside on top of that...he is definitely the better, much more consistent option than Ryan....Bobby Ryan also grew up in an abusive home so his mental game is not as fit as one would want which by extension makes him a bit more streaky on his own end which typically doesn't bode well in H2H formats vs. Richards consistent production

I will go against the group here - give me Bobby Ryan. We have yet to see him come close to what he's capable of.

Ryan has more upside than Richards in my opinion.

Definitely will score more goals which fits well within your scoring system, and he also has dual eligiblity. He's also more of a multicat stud than Richards.

Its a one year league where positions don't matter.

I must have missed this being a "one-year" league or the thread got moved.

I take Richards over Ryan for this season. But Ryan most definitely in a keeper league

Yea actually...his real last name is not even "Ryan" it's actually Bobby Stevenson...he changed it directly because of that stuff so him and his mom could start a new life out in california after his father got put in jail atempted murder on her or some shit...you can try and find the full story via Google search if you want...and growing up in that environment does in fact have legitimate effects on the kid whether you want to be dismissive about it or not...watching his mother get beat night in night out from a very young age does facilitate all types of irrational cognitive shit in terms of core beleifs, powerlessness etc....I think his mom was a drug addict as well on top of it.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3782270

Here's an ESPN write up on some of his background like I mentioned above from a couple years ago to further validate what i'm saying...take that and couple it with a basic background in behavioral psychology and you'll understand what i'm talking about....or you can just listen to me and go with Richards based on what I mentioned above regarding Selanne/Fowler's impact on his PP time and his corresponding streakiness vs. Richards consistent production being...keeper may be a different story but for this season I much rather have Richards again primarily due to how stellar Selanne has played and the emergence of Fowler resulting in both Selanne and Fowler eating up a big chunk of his PP time and by extension lowering his point ceiling for this season
