Not directly answering your original question, but you can't just drop him as he's in your IR slot and not officially on your roster. Because he's no longer officially on IR, as far as I'm aware, you cannot make any trades or FA moves until you move him out of your IR slot. So, your only choice (I believe, someone can correct me) is dropping someone else on your roster to activate him, and then drop/keep him active.

Found this in the Yahoo help:

"Once on the IR, a player may stay there for the entire season, even if they return to real-life action. However, once a player comes off the real-life IR, you will not be able to complete any transactions until you remove him from your team's IR. You will, however, be able to make intra-roster moves (switching players between bench and active) regardless of a player's IR status."

It doesn't mention directly dropping from IR, but I'm pretty sure that it cannot be done since he is officially not on your roster when he is in your IR slot. So, essentially you would be attempting to drop a non-player. You picked someone up to replace him, so will have to drop someone else to activate him. And you must activate him first.

Get Kostitsyn no question and dump either Connolly or Pominville...Connolly in my opinion as Roy has been extremely solid this year which is gonna severely hurt Connolly's chances of getting lined up with Vanek...Pominville on the otherhand has good chane to see alot of time with Roy/Vanek so he's worth holding on to more...bump Stoll to your C #3 slot ditch Connolly for Lupul..then Lupul for Kostitsyn
