It would be really nice if you could map your own set of controls - I don't see why the option to do that isn't there.

okay what the heck
1) In NHL10 you were allowed to turn off the auto-save function, I don't see it in NHL11? Maybe I'm mistaken?
2) I simmed a couple weeks by from the season because I didn't want to play all 82 games, my team decided it was a good idea to place Willie Mitchell on waivers thus handicapping my defense. Of course he got claimed and now I don't have him. WTF?

i traded for hall and eberle, and then because it was mid season, the game put them "in the system", so they are not in my nhl squad or my ahl squad, so i have to finish the whole season and wait till next year to use them. needless to say im restarting the season lol
What did you trade to get them? I'm Anaheim so I have a bad rep with the Oilers, I sent like a million offers for Hall they would never give him to me, but now me and Edmonton have an A+ relationship. ??? and yeah that sucks same thing happened with Fowler, but i'm in the playoffs so I'll just call him up next year.

I've had the game for about a month now, and have played about 75 games (mostly in Be A GM Mode). Some criticisms:
Is there a setting that will make it possible to complete a pass in the offensive zone? Seriously, there is really no point in even attempting a pass, and if any opposing player gets near you you lose the puck...if one does happen to get through I am usually so amazed that I freeze - another problem is passes going so far off target...honestly, the passing in this game gets an F-
The faceoffs are also pretty bad - half the time my player just does nothing, even though I am doing the proper moves with the stick...can I have my X-button faceoffs back please?
Shooting: how many times can you hit the post/crossbar in one game? 10? 20? Not much point shooting from anywhere but the slot, nothing gets through. Another problem I have is that the shot power depends on how hard you flick the stick forward.
Controls get a D-. I like the skill stick, etc, but you should have the option to customise the controls - how freaking hard is that to put into the game? The 'classic controls' are a joke, you can't even make line changes with them. This is NHL 2011, what the hell is the problem, EA?
The skating is great, I also like the checking - some great hits in this game.
They also seem to really have improved the goalies - some lame ones still go in, but its a lot better.
Overall gameplay I give it a C+. Graphics get an A, at least it looks good.

If you hold down pass it has a better chance of going through. Hard to get off passes in front of the crease like in prior years but I find passing to the high slot is easy enough. Plus I honestly think I get more goals from the point than from the slot anyway.
Anyone find the new tuner set made trading just brutal? I remember trading used to be so easy and it needed to be fixed so you couldn't get players like Hall, etc. so easily but now it's just stupid... I was trying to get Fowler off FLA and offered up Chara for him and a 2nd rounder and they said that would only add to their athletic surplus and they weren't in the market for another D, even though their trade block said they wanted D. Had a bunch of other similiar trades where I offered what they were looking for only to have it rejected saying it added to their defense/offense/athletic surplus even though they had it as a need.
