Josh Bailey and probably top supplemental draft pick.

At a glance I think its a no brainer (do it), but D are at a premium and sadly I have a man crush on Burns.

I guess I'm worried that after holding onto him for a couple years, he'll turn into the offensive stud he was projected to be.
Also what is Baileys upside?

what can you get from that draft pick?

the way i see your sig (if its current and this team) you count 8 dmen and 14 offense. but your have 13 or so dmen and only 13 on your roster. so yeah i think this makes sense. worst case bailey doesnt pan out as much as most think and him and burns equal in points. there +- should be around the same.

The only way is if you're getting a no-brainer prospect (Carlson, Shattenkirk, Ennis) with that supplemental pick. If it's a good young NHL'er even better. Burns has just as much chance to bounce back to being a Olympic-worthy defensive selection (as he was projected to be this time last year) as he does to continuing his downward spiral. If you have a few examples of who might be available, that would help this discussion immensely.

I'm not a big Bailey fan for long-term point production, so to me it's a Burns vs. 1st FA selection debate, with Bailey as your upside.

No idea who the pick will be but it will be top two. Last year supp. draft had Varlamov, Del Zotto, Bergfors, Niemi and Stewart go in the top 5.

those are not bad guys but not great. but i would give burns for varly.

i would try to see if you can compile some list of the top 5 guys who will be around this yr. there has to be a way to tell?

Who's available from this year or last year's draft classes? Or do you do an Entry draft separate before this?

Entry and supplemental are different. Supp. is two months into the season.
Goalies are a premium in my league, I guess if it's the first or second pick, thats great, because my own pick may be first or second. If I was to get a guy like Varlamov or a surprise starter. I think more than likely I could flip a goalie for a top tier Dman and a forward and a high pick. It all depends on someones needs, and someone always needs a starter.
I did it with Emery last year, picked him with the last pick, flipped him for Kopitar, Suter and a first.

That makes sense to me now, if guys like Stewart and Demers were picked up in your supp draft last year.

Hard to say, losing Burns would be a good guy who might break out again. But a top-2 pick would mean you'll see a guy who actually IS breaking out after 20 games. Tough choice. Real tough. If d are that hard to come by, my instinct tells me to say no. If you need goalies, and say someone like Bernier or Schneider is available (assuming they are starters by that point), then maybe you make that move.
