You know that box where you write text? Right above that is a series of buttons which you can use to format your post.... the big B is for bold... or just press ctrl+B

User CP --> Edit Options --> (scroll the page down) Miscellaneous Options
Change the option from Basic Editor to Standard Editor or Enhanced Interface.
