Default GM Holmgren calls press conference - 11am Wed.

Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren will make a major announcement and be available to the media at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone.

Stay tuned to philadelphiaflyers.com for complete coverage.

As I mentioned previously, I get the feeling this doesn\'t relate to Emery...could be a front office change, though I\'m not certain John Stevens would be let go...this is definitely curious.

I\'m guessing it\'s to announce an \"agreement in principle\" with Emery.

...of course, it\'d be nice if it also mentions aquiring, and signing some defenseman from Florida too.

However, the Flyers can\'t sign free agents until July 1, but Emery is an exception because he played in Russia\'s KHL last season after being released by the Senators.
Makes sense to me... Emery to Flyers. July 1st is going to be a huge day! I am excited! (besides I own Heatley and I am excited for his apparent team change)

Sources: Flyers have deal with Emery

The Flyers have a deal in place to sign free-agent goalie Ray Emery, team sources said tonight.

Emery, who led the Ottawa Senators to the Stanley Cup finals in 2007, will receive $1.5 million for the 1-year deal, sources said.

A news conference with general manager Paul Holmgren will be held tomorrow at the Flyers\' practice facility in Voorhees, N.J.

Emery spent last season playing in Russia.

I posted this in the other Emery thread...

His stats in Russia...throw them out the window. Not because it\'s RUSSIA...

It\'s because he split time with another goalie that actually posted BETTER overall numbers than Emery...

    VITALY KOLESNIK. Who? Exactly.

Ironically Kolesnik played for the Avs for like 6-7 games a few years ago and I was able to soak it all in. He was actually a very different goalie when it comes to his style (think Roman Chechmanek but bigger and goofier) but he was extremely clutch and I think he went 3-3 overall.

He even beat Martin Brodeur and the Devils in a crazy 13-round shootout ... in New Jersey. Regardless, the fact Kolesnik had such good numbers is pretty good proof they don\'t mean anything.

Emery is as good as his ego allows him to be.

    Pretty impressive record.
Anyone know if this was in large part due to the team in front of him or was his play the main factor?
