1 Year - Offer for Kovalchuk

In one of my 12 team public Yahoo roto leagues I\'ve got a manager who is interested in Kovalchuk.

I know my LW is not super if I deal away Kovalchuk, so I don\'t want to improve one position while weakening another.

My Team, 2 starters @ each forward position, 4 D, 2 G

C: Savard/Gomez/Horton
L: Malkin/Kovalchuk/Stillman
R: Gionta/Hemsky/Murray
D: Visnovsky/Campbell/Poti/Markov
G: Miller/Lehtonen/Budaj

His first offer was something rather weak, something like Slava Kozlov and some crap throw-in for Kovalchuk.

I countered with Heatley for Kovalchuk, which he didn\'t take, but he countered with:

Kozlov/Cheechoo for Kovalchuk/Gionta

Obviously I\'m not taking this but it\'s closer and I don\'t mind trying to go back and forth a couple of times.

Here are some thoughts, let me know what you think between these 2:

a - Kozlov/Heatley for Kovalchuk/Gionta
b - Gagne/Cheechoo for Kovalchuk/Gionta

Bonus: Should I try and get him to take Hemsky instead of Gionta, and if so, should I make it a deal-breaker?

Which one would you prefer? Would you do either? Thanks

I\'m not sure if I like any of these deals. One-for-one, I think Heatley beats Kovalchuk. If you throw Kozlov and Gionta in there, I think it\'s a bad deal for you. Gionta will have a bounce-back season this year, and Kozlov is just way too streaky for my tastes. I figure Gionta out-points Kozlov by at least 10 points this year, and his +/- will be waaaay better.

As for the Gagne/Cheech deal, you at least know that you\'re getting a ton of goals back, plus some PIMs with Cheech. It\'s also likely that both of these players\' +/- will be better than Kovy\'s, although probably not better than Gionta\'s. I\'m still not quite sold on the deal, although it becomes a lot closer for me if you throw Hemsky in there instead of Gionta.

I\'d try and trade kovalchuk and hemsky for cheechoo/heatley.

Kovalchuk and Gionta just came off terrible seasons, and WILL rebound this season. Tell him that if he doesn\'t want to accept this, then you\'ll be fine waiting until after the season starts to chat about it more (he won\'t want to do this, because he knows that once kovalchuk and gionta start playing, they\'ll light it up and their value will be \"higher\&quot.

bottom line. LW is the hardest position to fill in yahoo! leagues. If he wants one of the top 3 left wings in the league, he\'s got to give you at least a top 3 player from the same or another position in return. Heatley satisfies this requirement.

If he doesn\'t want to do this, laugh at him and move on. You know (as all of us who read this site do) that kovalchuk has every bit the scoring potential that heatley does. And when he\'s listed at the coveted lw spot, you can demand the sky for him.

I\'m going to counter with Gagne/Heatley for Kovalchuk/Hemsky and if he doesn\'t take that, well, oh well.

Yeah. good choice.

usually the only time that people try to offer and make trades before the season, is because they think they can get a great player cheap because of his previous season\'s preformance.

If you wait on these sorts of deals, you can almost always get more once the season starts.

That is a good place to start with a counter offer. I would be a little suprised if he took it, just because of the hype surrounding philly. IF he counters with another offer including kozlov, you should tell him that your not interested in him (i hope your not, lol). It is just cause he seems to be countering/offering him alot.
