Should this trade have gone through? Please Chime in. Below is an excerpt from an email sent out to members of the league voicing my reasoning to why this trade should be declined.

Boyle vs. WIDEMAN
Team GP G A PTS +/- PPG SHG
BOS -6 1 1 2 -17 1 -1

Boyle Advantage:
-Boyle has 1G, 1A, 1PPG ahead of Wideman

Wideman Advantage:
-Wideman is +17 more than Boyle
-Boyle has played 6 fewer games mainly due to injury
-Boyle is older by 7 years

Which one has had the bigger impact this season in the AKHP?

Wideman. His league leading +29 is +17 greater than Boyle where Boyle is only better than Wideman by +1 in G,A,PPA. The +17 is a bigger factor than adding 1 to each of the other columns. If +17 is added to any team, just about any team would be able to propel themselves 2 spots in this category gaining an instant 4 pts. If +1 in G,A,PPA were added to any team, the contribution to the team is margin in comparison to the +17.

ALEXANDER SEMIN, LW
Team GP G A PTS +/- PPG
WAS 36 20 26 46 23 1

-14th in the league G
-15th in the league A
-13th in the league PTS
-2nd in the league +/-

Player Analysis:

Comparing Semin to all wingers in the league, he has some of the best stats of any player in the AKHP including big name players like Henrik Zetterberg, and Patrick Kane. Semin is 2nd in all +/- among wingers and is sitting as the 13th best pt getter in the AKHP which is significant because each team in the AKHP must use 4 wingers on each team meaning the top 40 wingers should be in play at any time. Semin is also playing in Washington alongside some of the most prolific players in the NHL namely Ovechkin and Green. The only stat where Semin has not contributed significantly is PPG.

Conclusion:

So when comparing players we can see that Wideman and Boyle have similar stats meaning that a 1 to 1 trade would be fair. Each player offers different advantages, but Wideman has the distinct major advantage in +/- while Boyle has a marginal advantage in 3 other scoring categories. Adding Semin to the trade makes the trade very lopsided. Semin is a highly valuable asset in the AKHP adding major contributions in all scoring categories other than PPG, he is a valuable commodity with stats comparable to some of the best wingers in the league. In the end, should this trade have been approved? Looking at the numbers this trade should have been declined. The numbers do not support a trade of Dan Boyle for Dennis Wideman
