Re: Hofer opinions
Binnington has played 118 games for the Blues over the last two years and that will not likely change, approx 60 starts next year barring serious injury IMO. Can Binnington lose the net? You bet, but, he will not lose it permanently, the 6 Mil CAP Hit says that's just not very likely. However, the following year Binnington will have 2 years left on his contract and at that point I can see the Blues start to transition Hofer into a more prominent role, perhaps a time share. BUT, here's the thing, can Hofer take on a bigger role and not shit the bed like so many other young goalies? I'm not seeing a young Vasi or a current Shesterkin kind of talent here. Hofer is far from a sure bet IMO, he's good like a lot of other young goalie prospects at 23 years of age. I'm not saying he doesn't take the net successfully for years to come but that absolutely remains to be seen. Hofer is RFA at the end of this coming year so we'll see what the Blues offer, that should be a solid indicator of what kind of impression he has made on management and what the longer term plan in net might be. Next year is a big year for Hofer toward that end.
