Default Draft questions - When do you draft 3D & 4D and how to stay focused/inspired in later rounds of the draft?

My draft plan for defense is generally:
    -1D in 3rd round
    -2D in 5th round
But 3D and 4D when? Do you guys have any general rules of when to do 3D and 4D?

So in the league I finished 3rd in, the later rounds I was having a feeling of 'meh'/just not really feeling inspired with the offerings in the later rounds.
    Categories league - Goals Assists +/- PPP Shots Hits / Goalie Wins SV% GAA SHO - 2C, 2LW, 2RW, 4D, 1UTIL, 2G, 4B, IR, 3IR+, 2NA
My draft went (and this is a late February draft remember):
1 - Jack Hughes (should have taken JT Miller - oops)
    2 - Artemi Panarin
    3 - Roman Josi
4 - Andrei Svechnikov (I could have had Bobrovsky but I was an idiot and decided to 'fade' goalies)
    5 - MacKenzie Weegar
    6 - Carter Verhaeghe
    7 - Josh Morrisey
8 - Andrei Vasilevskiy - not a great first goalie pick but the volume is there
    9 - Owen Tippett
    10 - Mark Scheifele
11 - Tyler Toffoli (before he got traded to WPG) - bit of an iffy pick
    12 - Bo Horvat

Now up to this point, this was a decent team other than not taking JT and Bob vs Hughes and Svech.
But then the next rounds really stunk other than Andersen

    13 - Evgeni Malkin - oof - dropped him for goalie/player stream
    14 - Mats Zuccarello - oof - dropped him for goalie/player stream
    15 - Martin Necas - oof - dropped him for goalie/player stream
16 - Adam Larsson - oof - dropped him for Mattias Ekholm who turned out to be great.
17 - Frederik Andersen (did the IR stash) - added Kochetchev in his place

I remember the draft and scrolling through the player list and not feeling really inspired by most of the players offered in the later rounds. Plus I was having a hard time drafting deciding on whether to go by Xrank or ADP ranking.
I have added the draft results to your viewing. H2H Cats League draft.pdf

TLDR - when do you guys think about drafting 3D and 4D and how do you find inspiration in the players available in the later rounds of a draft?
I assume you guys will say "have a plan and be flexible" - I did kinda have a plan for the first half of the draft but then I didn't really have one for the 2nd half of the draft.

    Any advice would be welcome.

My General rule is to take BPA, i dont necessarily draft positions till im in round 15 or so. Having plan to draft certain positions at certain times can often backfire imo..i adjust based on what others do.
