His deal was up, and they were 100% going to finally promote Tulsky. So they did Waddell a favour to pursue another job earlier than July 1st.

    Wow.
In my history of time on DobberHockey, I bump a lot of shit I was "right" about.

One I was very wrong about... Don Waddell (former defenseman).
While he was in Atlanta I thought he was a trash GM that didn't know how to build a team.
He did a spectacular job in Carolina.
A team that has actually did something fairly uncommon in recent years - which is to "trade down", often, at drafts - and then throw big darts at foreigners/Russians.
Nikishin is glowing example of a "big hit". They may have a few others coming too.

Really, really tactful job of him building the Carolina defense, especially.
And Brind'Amour - right guy for the right group.

Big applause and major apologies to Waddell.
Effin incredible job with the Canes. Amazing.

I remember the camera being on Milbury and Waddell prior to the draft starting back in 2000 when the Isles traded Luongo and Jokinen to Fla for Parrish and Kvasha .

Waddell was pissing himself in response to whatever Milbury was saying to him and I cant help but think Mildummy told Don about the trade which had yet to be announced .
