its hard to say if he is good coach or not tbh....i always felt like he was not allowed to fully be himself in TO. Those overpaid stars with big egos didn't allow him to say or do exactly what he wanted and i believe he had his wrists slapped few times he tired. Good for him, hope he takes full advantage of it.

I agree. I like Keefe and think he's a good coach. I definitely put more blame in Toronto on the core 4 and team construction than I do Keefe. Plus, coaches often get better the 2nd and 3rd time around. Besides Keefe, Woodcroft or Carle were my hope in NJ.Originally Posted by PenguinHunter

Good hire for NJ. That offense should flourish with him. He’s going to play the crap out of Hughes and PP1. He even might have some post season success.

I agree but Hughes did average 21 and 20 minutes the last two seasons and nearly 4 min of PP time last season. I wasn't a big fan of Ruff but he gave all the big guns in NJ, except Holtz, lots of ice time.

Show me a solid, reliable goalie and I'll show you a good head coach. Until NJ shores up the G position, it wont matter who's coaching this team. They have a lot of excellent pieces to build around, both up front and on the back end, but they desperately need a goalie.

Keefe was the best coach available this offseason in my opinion. He's always seemed to bring the best out of subpar goalies and D with the Leafs, so having the best D core and an actually option at PPQB should be interesting for him. Maybe he can pull Allen into a 1B role.

I also think that Keefe was not the problem in TO. Let's see what I can do with the Devils. As a long-suffering Holtz owner, I'm waiting to see what is going to happen there.

Berube was the best coach available this offseason in my opinion because he's actually won in the playoffs and if I am not mistaken, the only available head coach to have actually won the Cup.

Berube won't make the rookie mistakes that Keefe made. Like 1 center on a defensive zone draw in the final minutes of a playoff game this yr.
But Keefe/Berube were 1/2 in options, and they both coach very differently. I can def understand Berube as the #1

Good point, hard to give Jack any more ice without further risking injury I think.
Also Holtz is not a big gun, he’s a busted water pistol. If he doesn’t learn how to play away from the puck he won’t make it in the NHL.

Agree. Keefe did all he could do except get the Leafs to win in the playoffs. Of course not all his fault. Berube has a cup and that should carry weight with the players.
