Coach cap hit doesn't mean diddly, especially when you're the most profitable franchise in the league. They dont care how much they are paying or not paying Keefe at this point.

And yes, Pittsburgh is worse now, but it's also older and declining, mainly because they spent their draft capital chasing the Cup for so many years.

Honestly, I'm thinking Toronto is HOPING Pittsburgh parts with Sullivan (or similar) - before July. (see how I tied that together?)

Else them firing a coach with a .595% win record with a plan of "... who?" seems crazy to me.

Sullivan would be good but Berube is what this team needs. This is a case of the inmates running the asylum and Berube won't put up with that.

Then blow core up. I have been at parties with Berube and obviously that's different then coaching but he's a great guy. I also hear he's firm but a players coach as well. Kind of like his good buddy Rick Tocchet. So if the Leafs core can't handle that then time to rebuild.

The Leafs should leak out that they aren't interested in Quenville. They've dealt with their own sexual assault hiding stuff with that usher who was charged and sentenced like 10yrs ago. I don't think they should touch that situation, nor do I think they will.

The team should be doing everything to get Rod Brind'Amour and his whole staff. Then fall back on Berube+Boudreau (PP)

I am going to say something perhaps controversial.

Is it possible that Shanny is purely political, and not very astute when it comes to hockey decisions? I mean not all former NHLers make good GMs or hockey-focused execs.

I say that because, watching that Amazon Leafs insider series a few years ago (the first one, where they lost to Habs in tem he playoffs), every time Shanny appeared in Dubas’ office or with Keefe, etc, it just seemed like he wasn’t contributing anything.

Now I highly doubt Shanny is a dumbass - not saying that - but something just struck me as odd about that whole thing.

I think Shanny is very good at managing up. He hasn't shown much else.

I would agree. He strikes me as a smart corporate guy. Says the right things to the press which means hes smart enough to say the right thing to MLSE. Can’t speak for what he does hockey wise other than I know he has veto power on trades.

I personally think his role is redundant. Theres no need for an MLSE CEO, president of hockey ops and a GM. It’s pretty ridiculous but when you have as much money as MLSE you can spend like it’s nothing. They just re-signed and then fired Keefe before his new contract even kicked in. Drop in the bucket for these guys and their financial owners.
