Probably warranted. No forward saw even 53% of available PP time, and the leading forward in TOI per game by nearly a minute was the venerable Alex Wennberg. That is not a recipe for success.

I think you have to play your best players the most. Balancing ice time doesn't work long term
Funny, a year ago Hakstol was a Jack Adams consideration who had taken a new expansion franchise to the Stanley Cup playoff in just one year. However, the team takes a step back this year and that's it for Hakstol. It's a tough business. Personally, I think the regression is more on the players than the coach, but it don't work that way (:
There is no shortage of HC vacancies out there, it will be interesting to see if Hakstol can immediately land another job or not.

Apparently there was a number of players who voiced they didn't want to play for Hakstol anymore, and also said they "wouldn't" play for him.

The main issue is last year they were a playoff team and this year they fell flat. I believe they overachieved big time last year and it created false expectations. Their team isn't that good.

I meant to ask earlier but it slipped through the cracks, but have you got any additional info on this? I haven't come across anything that indicated Hakstol lost the room in a big way, but I was a bit surprised at this move so there has to be some internal stuff going on that has played a major role in this firing.

Apparently Francis and some players have come out and said that the talk about players complaining is not accurate, but I dont expect anyone to admit it publicly.

"Cleavage is like the sun. You can look, but dont stare.. Unless you're wearing sunglasses."
I've always like Hakstol as a coach, both in PHI & SEA.
He seems to do well with average-ish rosters.
But some coaches get/feel 'stagnant' after a while.
Sometimes what WE see... isn't what the players experience.
I had always, always thought Mike Babcock was a very high-end NHL coach.
Had no idea he was such a prick until it started to leak out.
So... who knows with Hakstol.
It feels like a surprising move to me.
I though SEA simply overperformed last year and performed on-par this year.
This said - whenever a GM moves in his 2nd coach choice, he probably buys himself another 3 years.
Ya gotta hit on that 2nd coach though... or your own leash gets yanked.
Who exactly are the significant players in Seattle? Dunn and...
