Big question: head-to-head or Roto? If Roto is there max GP?
Given what you have said, if head-to-head I would be comfortable holding Kane. It hurts short term but assuming Kane returns for the fantasy playoffs you will have him when he is needed most.
Likewise, if it is roto with max GP, you can afford to burn some games with Kane not playing, so long as you do not get to a point where you will not max out GP it is fine.
The expectation is Kane will sign and start his season in November/December.
In h-2-h you hold him for the playoff upside.
In roto you hold him for the GP value he provides.
