Honestly, it's hard to differentiate. Both are starting the season in the backup spot and both could steal starts. I'd say Schmid is in the better spot only because NJ is the better team so he's probably who I'd go with only because of that.
Draft tomorrow, need to pick one, which one for you is the best talent and best situation ?
Thanks

I don't have much opinion on talent level, but I think Schmid's on a better team so the upside is high. Hofer could beat out Binnington and the Blues might still stink.
I think Hofer is the better goalie but Schmid is on the better team. I would go Schmid short term.
Depends on what you need.
Hofer has the better situation for playing time and a starting role, as he's behind Winnington, who hasn't been living up to that name. At all.
Schmid has the higher upside per start, being on a better team, and a guy who's proven more in the NHL.

One thing I'll say about Schmid is that the dude is unflappable. I think goaltending at the NHL level is mostly who has the mental edge, since technique and size is mostly replicable. The kid can allow 3 quick goals and not look bothered by it. I think that's a rare ability and he showed up very well in his first playoffs as a rookie.
I won't say anything about Hofer since I haven't seen his play, but Schmid has an aura to me.
Is Schmid still a rookie or not?
