See, I would like to know the details of this, you can private message me if you want so as not to hijack a post, but on the surface I can't figure out how this makes sense for the other guy. Good on you for coming out ahead, but wow... maybe there's a way this would make sense in certain types of league setups but in a vacuum this is madness.

Who does he have besides McDavid that would make sense to target in in 2 for 1?

Probably best options would be Marchand / Stone / Stamkos

I frequently don't see the point of making a trade like this. Unless it's a league where you keep less than half your roster or a cap league where you're consolidating salary these deals rarely make sense. You're trying to trade 240-300 pts for 150 (best case). That means you need to find 150 pts (minimum) in the redraft to come out even. That doesn't even take into account categories. I mean, I guess you could make it work, but I don't know why you would want to when what you have isn't broken.

In my case, I have 2 drop 2 pretty good forwards at the moment, in a keep 15 league. Someone along the lines of Fiala, Barzal, Laine, etc. So I'm not giving up as many points as you suggest, as I would be replacing some of them internally with my own players that I could now keep by making space.

If you're trading players in a 2for1/3for1 you need to think about the players that aren't in the deal. By this I mean if you're in a limited keeper league, if you're acquiring more players who aren't you keeping now?

McDavid+Player1+Player2 needs to be much worse than Eichel+Hughes+Guentzel.

McDavid(140pts)+Player1(60pts)+Player2(60pts) = 260pts/3=87pts
Eichel(82pts)+Hughes(100pts)+Guentzel(60pts)= 242pts/3=81pts

And that's if Player1/2 are waiver wire forwards.

Keep 15, (max 2 goalies) means 180players kept. Probably 20goalies kept so 160players. With 4D starting lineup, probably means 40D kept roughly. So 120forwards are kept (10/team). Which does mean the 120th forward in a Pts/82gp last yr ranking would be in the 55-60pts/82gp, just to prove that the 60pts for player1/2 was a pretty solid guess.

I'm aware of this dynamic. His drops would be insignificant.

This was before Kaprizov played first game…Tkachuk was not Tkachuk yet and Makar was just starting…. I just lacked out with all 3

The thinking here is that if you're trading 250-270 points, and McDavid is 140, then you're looking for 65 points each for the other 2 promoted keepers. With Barzal/Fiala/Laine tier, that's very reasonable.

Depends on how Barzal and Laine fare. As is, I believe I would be making incremental progress, which is all you can really hope to do when you have an already stacked team. And in general, t's hard to hit "home run" deals with other competent GMs.

But if Barzal and Laine finally hit their potential, then it becomes a much bigger win.
