It'll be interesting when the trend turns with the $10m stat to "no one who makes over 13% of the cap...".

Sure, percentages is probably a better way to gauge what I was trying to say, but it's too much work to go back and figure out percentages for guys like Kucherov or Rantanen in recent years who were just below the $10M mark, but I think you get my point and what I was trying to say.

I'm not disregarding what you said, the $10m is the mark as of now, but each yr we'll gain more and more $10+m deals, I think we're at 15players going into next yr across ~11 teams. So there's an almost a 33% chance now. I'm just curious when the scales tip from the $10m baseline to a percentage baseline.

12% is also $11,040,000 for the $92,000,000 cap. I feel like that'll be the year when we start rethinking the benchmark. It'll then be like 6 players (Pasta, Karlsson, Panarin, McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews). And Karlsson is only $10m cap hit for Pitts.

At the end of the day, Leafs signed their best player in franchise history (arguably). End of the day it's good to me.

"over $10M" is so hilariously arbitrary given that in final one team had a $10M and a $9.5M player and the other team had two $10M and one $9.5M and one of the conference finals team had two third liners making over $9.5M. Like yea I'm sure if Eichel made $10.1M then Vegas just would have had no chance. Might not even be a playoff team if he made that extra $100,000.

How did I know you were going to pick apart MY point LOL! In fact, I was waiting for you personally to chime in about it, knowing full well you'd argue against it.

And that's why I adjusted my statement to the percentage against the cap instead of just a dollar value. My point still stands.

What point? Arbitrary endpoints are meaningful as long as you can build a narrative around them?

Well if you missed it, we have nothing more to discuss and we're good.

    Cheers!

Oh... and he's still getting paid $1.5 Million until 2029 I do believe with the buy out.

Perhaps the biggest draft bust in history turned his career into the biggest insurance claim! Well Done Ricky.

I've seen the other posts illustrating examples so I won't regurgitate those.

I also specified after, that my statement was directed to skaters, and not goalies. I did not originally say that.

2024-25 is the only year this contract & Nylander's will give the Leafs much of a cap crunch.
It's the final year of Tavares contract
I suspect Tavares will cut his salary almost in half -
which should swallow the gains AM, WN & MM make on their new deals.

In 2025-26 These 4 should be damn close to the same AAV cap hit they're at for 2023-24

If the cap rises to $87m - 13.25m is the same % of cap as Mackinnon's 12.5m.

In 2 years... Draisaitl will get more than either of them.

yup, 15% of $92m is $13,800,000. So I think we see Drai around that mark.
