this one surprises me...
but he does have way more to give imo ...he needs young energetic wingers and he should produce at better rate. This maybe good for fantasy owners.

I think he actually requested it a bit ago though, this just was the GM confirming it. I take it as Kuznetsov seeing how the team is formed, and how he doesn't have a chance to win the Cup with the Caps again. But the Caps aren't just going to give him away as they need players around Ovi.
If Couture's MNTC wasn't so restrictive (3Team Trade List), I would think the Sharks, Caps and a 3rd team would be the best option.
Kuznetsov has a 10 team No Trade List, with a $7.6m cap hit for 2yrs, and owed $14m over that 2yrs ($2m signing bonus already paid for this yr).

i dont know if there is any space for this cap wise but to me florida and colorado could use him....he does not exactly fit the game colorado plays but i think he would adjust.

I think their move to get Ryan Johansen kind of removes Colorado as an option. Cap wise, they are at 10 Forwards with Ross Colton an RFA still, 7D and 2G, with essentially $6.8m in space (after Landy LTIR). I think they can technically do it, but I don't think they will.
Florida are pretty set. They have 12F, 8D, 3G. With that lineup, Yandle Buyout, $212,500 in bonus overage penalty, they have $1,137,499 in space. Plus their Center depth is Barkov, Bennet, and Lundell.
I don't know many teams in the League actually need a Kuznetsov. He's not good defensively, so he's a flawed C2. Maybe Carolina could swing a deal, however they need to get some of their top guys under contract next yr (Aho, Tera, Martinook, Skjei, Pesce), and bringing in $7.8m doesn't make that easier. Maybe St Louis, but they wouldn't have made the Hayes deal if they wanted Kuz.
I dunno if Kuz gets moved. It's too big of a contract, with the extra yr, and he's on a team that wants players in return to help now. It's too late, it should have been done a month ago.

Minny has like $8m for their starting goalie (Gus), top 4 D (Addison), and 2F. They can't afford a $7.8m center with their $14.7m dead cap this and next yr.
Winnipeg has like $8m for Vilardi, Kupari, Barron, and Stanley. They would make sense with a Scheif trade. They can move a guy who's likely gone after this yr for a player who's under contract for 2yrs. Caps free up some space to make it easier to get 2Fs (they have 10 under contract that's healthy).

I wonder if the Canucks come out to be an unlikely candidate for him. I only say this as Boeser has been linked to the Caps and we have a glut of wingers. Of coarse salary would have to be dumped somewhere to make it work.

Maybe NYI, OTT or STL? Not crazy cup contenders but all you gotta do is get in.
Call me old one more time.

Yeah... no surprise here.
The Russian fun in Washington is gone with Orlov (& previously Samsonov) departed.
He has his Cup. The only "legacy" left is for Ovechkin - and even a buddy doesn't want to stick around as 2nd fiddle for that end...
Lots of legs left on Kuz.
I agree on MIN - that's a great location. Also - when that Parise/Suter clog clears up in summer 2025... Kuz becomes UFA and MIN has money to re-sign.
50% retain would be a $4.6m hit for MIN over next two seasons.
They send back Calen Addison (who they were healthy scratching last year) and some combination of Lambos or Faber (prob.not Faber) or Yurov and some 2nd rounder.
Barry Trotz loves Kuznetsov - Nashville.
