Pretty easy rule for these types of trade talks is to not trade a guy for another guy with the potential to be as good as the one you are trading away. Best case scenario is the deal turns out ok for you while the worst case is that you gave away a star for nothing.

This is correct. While there's a route by which Newhook proves more valuable over time, I'd have a hard time sending Barzal for him.

wow post from so long ago lol but yeah there is no way you trade Barzal for Newhook for at least next 5 years...just makes no sense

only way what Chuck said above makes sense when its 10+ years difference between the two and older guy is at least 33 years old..even then it really depends on the player...

I'm not a fan of Barzal in multi-cat if there's anything but scoring and SOG there. He's a drag in everything else.

I dealt Barzal earlier this year this year along with Wheeler for Trouba in a deep multi-cat league with grit cats, plus FO% and FOW. I got the best player, and Wheeler was replaceable off the wire.

However, Newhook wasn't close to enough lat last year, and definitely isn't now.

I mentioned way back when that I do own him in a couple keeper leagues myself but I had a sneaky feeling he was going to struggle this year, even with the greater role coming out of camp. Thats why I thought you were dodging a bullet back when you started this thread. That being said, I do still believe in Newhooks ability. It's just going to take longer to get there, which isn't out of the norm for young centers. It's not an easy position to play in the NHL.

Update: Barzal produced 4.6 fantasy points per game last season and continues to lead the Isles, while Newhook had 2.6 points per game in our league and has been traded MTL. So far, Barzal side holds strong a year + after this post.
