We need more information about your league. Points only I go Maccelli, multi cat I’d likely go with Peterka.
Hi everybody!
I have to choose between Maccelli and Peterka. Maccelli had more success this year, but I think that Peterka has more talent.
In 3-5 years, who do you expect to have the best points only production?
Thank you for your help!

I think this is tough. Macelli is intriguing, but the organization scares the bejesus out of me in terms of him reaching his potential. I was a little surprised at Peterka's so-so production this year. Really like him as a player long-term, but (amazingly enough) the top 6 is getting pretty crowded for the Sabres in the coming years, so there's risk there too.
All in all, forced to choose now, I think I'd side with Peterka. Very close for me though.

Maccelli
I think the lack of a consensus here speaks volumes. This is extremely close. According to Dobber, Maccelli has 77 pt upside and 47 3 YP and Peterka has 75 pt upside with a 48 pt 3 YP. Ya, pretty damn close. As is always the case, opportunity will be the deciding factor. This is all conjecture at this point but based on what we do know this is how I see things. Maccelli is playing in the desert, ya, not good, and I don't see things turning around there anytime soon. If you are not skating with Keller or Schmaltz you are skating with Johnny Cement Hands (Bjustadt) and Lunch Bucket Bill (Crouse) which is the case with Maccelli. I can see Maccelli hitting his 3 YP but in that environment, the chances of him hitting his upside are pretty bleak IMO. Paterka finds himself in a pretty rich hockey environment: Tuch, Quinn, Thompson, Krebbs, Cozens, Olofsson, Mitlestadt and a few more vets thrown in for good measure. Where does Peterka fit in here? Right now he is skating with Oloffson and Cozens. I certainly like that deployment more than skating with Bjustadt and Crouse. Given the depth the Sabres have, if Paterka moves up or down in the lineup he is still playing with some significant talent. Unless Maccelli moves up to the 1st line he is not surrounded with the talent that Paterka is. In short, I like Paterka's chances of hitting his upside far more than I like Maccelli's chances of doing the same. Paterka for me.

whenever a forward lacks shooting volume I hesitate. It really limits their ability to self-produce points.
Maccelli is currently less than 1 SOG per game.
When was the last time a forward hit .8/game over 82 games under 1.5 SOG/game? Maybe Ryan Johansen? PA Parenteau?
It's a flag that makes me want to steer clear. It's a basic rule I have with forwards - bare minimum 2 sog/game - regardless of format (unless I carry someone like Deslaurier's for PIM/Hits)
