Big breaking story out of Nashville: after 26 years as the Predators’ architect — the most consistent presence in franchise history — David Poile is retiring from President of Hockey Operations & GM position, effective June 30. Expectation is he will remain in a consulting role.

Barry Trotz is believed to be Poile’s successor. Starting work immediately…although not officially the GM until June 30

This is a massive organizational shift, with the only GM in history stepping aside, and one of the game's best coaches and franchise legend coming back to take his place. Could be a new player scouting/acquisition philosophy and also the best available coach on the market just got pulled off the table.

Big move. Trotz has zero management experience but Poile is sticking around to help him. It will be interesting to see how he builds the future in Nashville.
One of the best available coaches is off the market.

Poile was about 10 years overdue to step down. Looking forward to seeing Nashville hopefully become a better than middle of the pack team

I kinda hoped this would have been the islanders transition , Trotz learning the ropes from Lou for a season .

I don't think Trotz really needs a tonne of time learning the ropes. head coaches are often involved with GM decisions & constantly consult on rosters.
Gone are the days of coaches being GM's visa versa ... but for a guy like Trotz, it's a natural progression.
I expect the learning curve to be a lot smaller for him than for Yzerman, Francis, Spezza (it's coming), Sakic - who jumped in from players to front office roles.

Trotz has one very easy move to help Nashville: fire Hynes.
I want to see Trotz hire Tortorella at some point down the road just for Trotz/Torts confusion.
