I agree it seems like an odd firing.
on a side note, time to buy low on Barzal?
That seems like an odd firing. Didn't get the sense from anyone that the bad season was on Trotz last year.
Fantasy-wise though, it might be fun to see what this team can do with a more open style of play. And maybe Sorokin's value drops a little.

might not mean anything but Lane Lambert (isles associate coach) has been attending the AHL playoff games with Uncle Lou .
I wouldnt mind seeing Lane given a whirl as HC
Lambert named Islanders head coach
The New York Islanders stayed in house for their new head coach.
The club named Lane Lambert as its new bench boss on Monday, a week after the firing of Barry Trotz following four seasons with the team.
Lambert had served as an associate coach under Trotz for the past four seasons.
"I had the opportunity to work with Lane over the past four years, which includes spending time with him on a one-on-one basis when he served as the interim Head Coach this past season," Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello said in a statement. "In my opinion, he is the right person to coach this team."
More to come.
I'll be interested to hear what folks think about this. I really don't know anything about Lambert but in many cases staying in house for a coaching change typically means more of the same system. Not what Barzal owners likely want to hear (:

i dont think that is necessarily true. If HC and ACs are 100% on the same page, it usually means all go together. If AC is given a job after HC leaves, maybe he has different vision. Different sport but that happened with Sam Mitchel and Nick Nurse on Raptors and rest is history.
i dont think anything can be assumed...you could be right that it will be same/similar system or Lambert could have completely different point of view and i would personally assume latter is the case.
Disclaimer: i also know nothing about Lambert. Only Lambert i heard of prior to today is the one that is going to be drafted this year lol

I'm not a fancy stats expert but my naked eye test showed me the isles played very good when Chara missed around 2 weeks .
They needed to improve on Nick Leddy (who was dealt to Detroit)or at least tread water with someone similar , not downgrade to 44 year old stay at home D in Chara .
I have no idea what to expect from Lambert but I think most NYI fans want to see more young players integrated into the lineup early and often so they get those reps under their belt as the season progresses. If that means growing pains on the blueline while Salo gets adjusted to NHL pace , so be it .
I'm also so tired of the ''identity line'' not having a buzzsaw forechecker to create havoc resulting in some 4th line production .

Casey actually has a decent set of hands to finish
Chara’s corsi and fenwick for numbers this year were just over 41%. That ain’t good. Pulock was just above 46% and Dobson a little above 50 for comparison. Shea Weber (the type of player I think Chara is envisioned to be) on a couple mediocre Habs teams was at 52% the two seasons previous to this.

Lane Lambert's answer as to what he liked about Dennis Cholowski's game:
"A real solid offensive player. [He] moves the puck well, skates well, and he's got good offensive instincts, good mobility. So, you know, he's a guy who can move the puck and we like that."
