Default Keep 5 - Miller, Zibanejad, Meier, Seider, Letang, Shesterkin, Saros, Sorokin

My season just wrapped up and I know its a long way until my keeper deadline but I'm really not sure who to choose as my five keepers out of the following players (league details in signature):

Keep 5 - Miller, Zibanejad, Meier, Seider, Letang, Shesterkin, Saros, Sorokin

I am leaning towards keeping Miller, Zib, Meier, Shesterkin, and Saros. I like multi-cat players hence keeping Miller and Meier for their shots and hits... would be tough to not keep Zibanejad. Shesterkin is a lock. Do I go with Saros or Sorokin over Seider?

Looking for any other thoughts. I don't really subscribe to the zero goalie strategy. Having three very capable goalies and multi-cat players allowed me to win my regular season and playoffs.

What would you do in this situation?

    Thanks for any insight.

First, the 'zero' goalie strategy is a terrible option for you with those options.

What I would do is to see which of Sorokin & Saros will net you a better return. I'd also look to see if anyone is weak in net with a player who would be a clear skater keeper upgrade. If you can find that, pursue trade options, and give them a choice of Sorokin or Saros if you have to do that. You could honestly try to leverage that twice, if you like, as well.

I think you are on the right track with the five you suggested: Miller, Zib, Meier, Shesty, and Saros would be my choices here as well

I'd go Miller, Zib, Meier, Seider and Shesty. stud D are harder to find than goalies. Keeping goalies in a limited keeper league is generally a bad idea IMO. keeping 2 goalies is a terrible strategy. Especially considering you have 4 goalie cats compared to 8 player stats. There are always decent options available in the draft and on the waiver wire throughout the season. Plus they are simply too unpredictable year over year and week to week. Ill admit I am bias, I am completely sold on the zero G strategy. I never touch a goalie until at least double digit rounds and I rode that to titles in all 4 of my leagues. That being said, Shesterkin is tough to give up.

There's always one tough choice to make (:

Miller, Zib, Meier, Shesty are my first four. Then it gets tough. I think stevegamer's advice is excellent, shop the hell out of those goalies and see what you can get. If you can only move one, keep the other. If you move both of them for a clear upgrade on your four keepers add the upgrade to your list. I'm still a bit skeptical about Seider, I want to see a few more seasons like this one before I call him a stud D. We have seen rookie stud D fall on their face in the past. Not saying that will happen with Seider, but its also not outside the realm of possibility.

Im not keeping Seider. Just not proven enough yet. Keeping 2 goalies is tough but having 2 stud goalies is not bad either. Trading 1 or both Saros/Sorokin for aStud D or F is the way to go otherwise id just keep 2 goalies and maybe 3 as hoarding goalies ups their value to trade them away later to needy teams. In my league it works like that but its not a limited keeper

Welcome to the forums. Solid first post and an interesting one to boot.

I agree with the five you have selected, although trying to move one of your other goalies (be it Saros or Sorokin) is a good idea as well. I'd be willing to keep either Saros or Sorokin to be honest. Shop both and see if one gets you a better return and keep the other one.

Keeping 2 goalies in a keep 5 where only 4/12 stats are goalie stats is just bad team management. The league is heavily weighted towards player stats. Goalies are unpredictable, unreliable and you can always find goalies later in the draft and on the waiver wire.

I am not sure I completely agree.

Sure there's goalies available later in the draft or the waiver wire, but you know what you won't find later in the draft or on the waiver wire? Stud goalies like Sorokin or Saros. In a start 2G league, this eliminates having to look for a goalie at any point in the draft and allows you to focus on skaters when others are reaching for a goalie during a goalie run.

Lets be honest, the players left over for redrafting are probably just as inconsistent as the goalies.

Given your format (12 team, keep 5, H2H, skater v goalie ratio), goalies don't have as high value given weekly matchups and variability.

The top skaters will already be gone for your redraft so I would be tempted to put all your goalies (yes, even Shesterkin) on the block (if this is an option) and see what returns you can get. If you can get a(nother) top 5/10 skater for Shesterkin, then I would be very tempted. You have solid skaters but could use another high end one. That might allow you to keep one of Sorokin/Saros while upgrading your skaters as well.

You have some solid skaters, but none of them are absolute locks in a keep 5. For that reason, I am definitely keeping 2 goalies in your situation. Shesterkin is a lock. Then I lean towards Sorokin over Saros (I think Sorokin will be the better goalie long term, and you will likely have an easier time trading Saros too).

Then I am likely keeping the three forwards (although Seider is tempting, I don't think he makes the cut in a keep 5 at this point, and Letang is due to decline at some point, or at least regress from some unsustainable numbers this year).

But ultimately I think you need to upgrade and find a better forward keeper. This will be tough to do, but I would likely try to shop a 2-for-1 deal offering some combination of Miller/Zib/Saros/Letang as a package.
