Lack of F'ing Talent.
Things fall off a bit after a few top players. Some of the young guys have simply not taken the step forward. Reminds of the Habs at their worst...lots of buzzing around and no finish. Monahan does look disengaged which is a bummer because Gaudreau looks energized. Also, Rittich sucks and Markstrom is already wearing down under the workload.

Thanks for the insight guys - except you Axe!
Yeah not great all round, and difficult to be competitive when you're struggling to beat Ottawa!
They just come off as a team that has no idea what they want to be. Good defensively? Physical? Last time I remember this team having any sort of identity was 2004.

I think they have enough talent but they don’t bring it consistently. They may be LOFT but I think they are SOFT.
They play distracted, not hard on pucks but hard on bodies and often out of position to make hits. They’re not focused and I don’t think anyone in the room likes Matthew lol.
Is Rittich even startable right now? I grabbed him for this week because I saw the Ottawa games. Now I am scared.
Markstrom update:
Jacob Markstrom (upper body) was on the ice practice Wednesday, but it's unclear at this time if he will return on Thursday.
Advice: Markstrom said “it was a good day today" following the session, but he would not commit to playing against Ottawa on Thursday night. Coach Geoff Ward said that Markstrom is getting final medical clearances and he's close to being ready to return. This was his first practice with the team since being moved to injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Markstrom hasn't played since Feb. 20.
Man they need Markstrom back to cover up their issues.

I think this is mostly all correct. Truly, trade everyone and keep Tkachuk. Lots of rumours that their "players only meeting" was telling Tkachuk to cool it a bit and that is just an embarrassment. Telling the only player you have who plays hard to not play so hard.
As for the Rittich stuff, we don't need to get into a big argument here or anything but he doesn't "suck". He's fine. He's a perfectly capable backup.
At least he's on the mend here. Hopefully by the weekend.
Jacob Markstrom is "an option" to serve as the backup goalie on Thursday night, according to coach Geoff Ward.
Advice: Markstrom was on the ice for the morning skate, but David Rittich will start against Ottawa. Markstrom hasn't played since Feb. 20 due to an upper-body injury.
