Cardinals paying $50mm in cash to the Rockies for this. Horse crap. Feels like English Premiership player purchasing.
Two years after getting Goldschmidt they go out and get Arenado now too.

BREAKING: Cardinals have agreed to acquire Nolan Arenado from Rockies, sources tell
@TheAthletic
. Deal pending approval from both MLB and players’ union; Rockies sending Cardinals significant cash, believed to be in $50M range, and Arenado will be deferring money.

Yep it's pretty bad. Here are the possible names involved...
. Names possibly going to Rockies include LHP Austin Gomber, 1B Luken Baker, OF Jhon Torres. Return also might include RHP Jake Woodford or RHP Angel Rondón. Exact package not confirmed.
Pretty crazy that Arenado, Betts and Lindor have all been dealt in the last year.
Looks like this will last a few days at least...

The #Rockies and #Stlcards say the Nolan Arenado trade won’t be finalized for days because of the complex financial aspects. The Rockies are sending cash that varies whether the opt-outs are exercised in 2021/2022; Arenado is deferring salary; and Cards are adding 1-year, $15M.
Cards deferring salary? Shocker.
But there goes his top value in Fantasy baseball. Cards get a top player, solidify their hot corner for a few yrs. But man, his hitting will be a big fall.

Wow.... that is going to hurt Arenado for sure. Wonder where he fits into the lineup.

Gotta assume he'll bat 3rd.
Done deal
.The Colorado Rockies traded star third baseman Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals for left-hander Austin Gomber and prospects Tony Locey, Jake Sommers, Elehuris Montero, and Mateo Gil, the teams announced Monday.
Colorado is sending close to $50 million to help cover off the remainder of Arenado's contract, according to Nick Groke of The Athletic.
Imagine one of the top 3B going for meh pieces, but it's all because of the contract.
The dollars is all about if he opts in to his deal for 2022-23 seasons. I think the Rockies are paying like 15mill(?) this yr, and then 35mill if he opts in? Or Cards are only paying 15mill for him and then the Rockies pay the rest this yr.
Really interested in seeing if Arenado continues to at least be a good bat. But his defense alone is worth what the Cards are paying him this yr at least.
Imagine telling a Cards fan like 3yrs ago you'd have Carpenter, Goldschmidt, and Arenado in your lineup tho.
