It’s a no for me. Jack Hughes is just scratching the surface and is a more complete player.
Hey guys I own Jack Hughes and I was offered Elias Pettersson one for one. Thoughts?

Its a slam dunk yes from me.
I'd be willing to do that, but now that Hughes is actually doing well, look for a sweetener.

It's funny. No way in hell this happens before the first puck was dropped to start this season. How quickly people change their tune.
I'd do this trade one for one, but I'd take a crack at getting a little extra from him first. Be it a mid round pick or decent prospect. If he says no, you still have the one for one deal to fall back on.

Hughes is still a what if. Petterson has already shown that he can produce points. I would take the deal, but ask for a pick as a sweetener. I mean the guy made the offer, be rude not to negotiate it.
This one makes me a bit nervous and the biggest problem is we really don't have a significant "sample size" to really understand what these two are capable of. Last year it was certainly Pettersson looking awesome and Hughes, well not. This year, early on, well, what do you make of that??? As other's have said, look for the sweetener. One on one, man, I'm just not sure. Is this a keeper league? In a one year I would be willing to roll with Pettersson just on the small but impressive track record. In a keeper, well now I'm just not sure again (:

Pettersson was taken 5th overall (1-4 were Hischier, Patrick, Heiskanen, Makar) . He had a played a year in the Swedish Elite league as a teenager and put up great numbers. For comparison, Auston Matthews, who like Hughes, came out of the USNTDP program (with slightly lower numbers than Hughes his final year) went and played with men in Switzerland and put up good numbers. Hughes was a clear consensus #1 pick (like Matthews). Hughes went straight from playing with teenagers to playing in the NHL unlike Pettersson. Hughes is not an unknown quantity. He's just taken a more abrupt path to the NHL and will be a player of the same caliber as Autson Matthews. It'll just take him a little longer. His upside is higher than Petterssons - and that's saying something. I'm firmly in the Hughes camp.

Some might say Hughes has a higher upside. Thing is, upside is not always realized. Petterson scored at a point per game level in his second year. Hughes has 7 hot games to his credit. The value of Hughes just took a major upswing. I would not be opposed to making use of that. Hughes wont be that much better than Petterson. I believe their upsides are a wash. If you can get a 2nd round pick, that would be enough for me to take the deal. Make it worth your while. Worst case scenario is you keep Hughes. Not a bad place to be.
No knock on Petey but I prefer Hughes. If he’d sweeten it up a decent bit due to Petterssons slow start I wouldn’t be against the move though.
