Soderberg FTW!
According to Lebrun, Toews won't be at training camp and will miss the start of the season.
The team right now will start the season without Toews, Dach and Nylander, and Strome is still unsigned.

The press release is quite ominous, before covid-19 I would have guessed he caught mono or something similar. Hope he makes a full recovery.

In a statement, Toews revealed he has "been experiencing symptoms" that have left him "feeling drained and lethargic."
From everything I've read about athletes with COVID, they find the exhaustion they feel (probably relative to their normal energy levels) as incredible.
I don't have subscription to Athletic - but I'm curious what Jayce Hawryluk dealt with:
https://theathletic.com/1945580/2020...-disclosed-it/
Covid sucks and makes you lethargic, but it's easily and quickly diagnosed and its over in 12-14 days. I had it. If the docs are puzzled by what's bothering him, it isn't covid.

From the article:
In Hawryluk’s case he dealt with relatively minor symptoms, but unlike Jones, he wasn’t completely asymptomatic. Battling COVID-19, which felt “more like a common cold” from Hawryluk’s perspective, still had an impact on him physically, even as he feels completely normal now.
Nope. Wrong. (It could be over in 12-14 days, but it also could not. So a blanket style "its over" statement is really poor here.)
Just because you came out on the good side of it doesn't make your experience applicable to others.

(btw - glad you are doing OK now. We probably all have extensions of friends & family that have experienced it... I hear more stories of "NOT bouncing fully back" than "OF bouncing fully back". Seriously - consider yourself lucky.)
Oh I do for sure. But it doesn't change the fact that covid is easily tested for and confirmed. If it's lingering he'd know he started off with it and that's what his problem was.

The NHL has (to my knowledge) chosen to allow NHL players to keep their positive test results as "private" - if they wish.
It's possible that Toews contracted COVID... and has other internal conditions that magnified it.
Georges Laraque is a former hockey player, obviously much older and not conditioned, but he really struggled with it when he got it.
I think Laraque had asthma - and that made it much worse.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...vid-19-battle/
I'd have to do some searching to see if he fully bounced back.
Anyways - if Toews is nowhere close to playing... he has to disclose something is up.
Maybe its COVID-related, maybe not.
But how many players have not been able to play from other fatigue-related issues??... probably a very short list.
