Someone make me proud and draft the only Bulgarian born player in the NHL. Extra points if you don't have to google who that is.
We are close to finishing up the NHL Entry Class Draft. So it is time to start planning and discussion the next one.
DusterDave had the awesome idea of drafting by the Nations that players played for.
So the basics (everything is up for discussion)
- Drafting X number of players from each nation
- Drafting X number of forwards, defensemen and goalies.
- Available countries - Canada, US, Russia, Sweden, Finland, 'Other'

My thoughts:
Some form of F D and G as per usual.
The player should be picked with the country/nationality they are known as. So Owen Nolan is not Northern Irish and Dany Heatley is not German, William Nylander is not Canadian, etc. Not likely to be an issue but just saying lol. We can debate how we want to rule on guys like Brett Hull.
We can set some max/min parameters although we should be careful not to constrain selecting non powerhouse nationalities as well.
Brett Hull should be American. It’s a hockey draft. Each player should belong to the nation they represent.
Canada
US
Russia
Sweden
Finland
Czech/Slovakia
Rest of Europe
It would be nice to draft a lineup from each nation (3F, 2D & 1G), but would that be too big a draft?
Should we do current NHLers only or all-time players?
I'm in. Brett Hull shouldn't be drafted!!

How about this:
6 Countries:
- Canada
- Finland
- Sweden
- Russia
-United States
- Europe (Other)
4 participants - we draft 6 from each country resulting in a player universe of 144 (24 from each country) - That is 36 player each or 36 rounds of drafting. 16 F, 8D, 4G, 8 Bench
5 participants - we draft 5 from each country resulting in a player universe of 150 (25 from each country) - That is 30 player each or 30 rounds of drafting. 14F, 7D, 3G, 6 Bench
6 to 7 participants - we draft 4 from each country resulting in a player universe 144 to 168 (24-28 from each country) - That is 24 players each or 24 rounds of drafting 12 F, 6D, 2G, 4 Bench
8+ participants - we draft 3 from each country resulting in a player universe of 144 + (24 + from each country) - that is 18 players each or 18 rounds of drafting. 9F, 5D, 2G, 2 Bench.

Looks like it’ll just be the four of us again. I’d like to do a full lineup of each country. 3F, 2D & 1G.
Canada
US
Russia
Sweden
Finland
Rest of Europe
36 players each, 144 total.
I think it would also be most fun to only use current players this time around since we’ve done several all-time teams already.
Only "Europe other"? No love for hockey greats like Rumun Ndur (Nigeria) or Richard Park (South Korea)? Remember these? Or how about Aussie Nathan Walker?

Another thing to consider: since we are talking about players from certain countries, are we talking about all time greatness generally, or are we putting an emphasis on their international play, etc. Imo it depends a bit on whether we're doing all time players or just current nhl players. Personally I would go with general greatness of the player, regardless of whether they played great in their country's uniform. Especially if we go with current nhlers since some of the young guys have been somewhat denied the opportunity to play for the men's team.
I am on board with just drafting active players or all-time. Good with either.
And I am on board with drafting a full set of 6 from each country (3F, 2D, 1 G) as long as it is only 4 or 5 of us drafting!
