So clearly the Oilers are interested in Brown. Makes sense as a landing spot for him this summer. The asking price will be different from Toronto's end because their priorities will obviously change.

Bob Nicholson literally blamed the Oilers missing the playoffs on one bottom 6 winger this morning.
Here's a transcript of Bob Nicholson's comments on Toby Rieder at this morning's STH breakfast.
I appreciate the honesty. He's not wrong.

No one's going to argue against that Rieder should score more than 0 goals but he didn't sign himself to a contract and he doesn't give himself ice time. The Oilers problems go way beyond one underperforming player and management's denial of their own incompetence and contributions to the current tire fire don't bode well for a turnaround any time soon.
Something, something, Lucic sucks as well.
The bigger problem is the person in charge of Edmonton’s hockey ops thinks 10-12 goals is worth 8 standings points.
It's so bloody stupid on so many levels:
1) Don't throw players under the bus. There is no one player responsible for this. Now you've got a player/agent pissed at you, in a market that has historically required an overpay to get players to come to.
2) If Rieder really should be due 10-12 goals, wouldn't a reasonable process be to consider bringing him back at a discount to take advantage of when the regression sets in?
3) Rieder probably isn't due 10-12 goals. By xG models he should have 7-8. If he shot last year's percentage he'd have 8. If he shot his career average he'd have 6.
4) Even if he were due 10-12 goals, those goals would have had to have been perfectly timed to have an actual meaningful impact on their place in the standings. They have a goal differential closer to that of a 30-win team (through 74 games) than of a 33-win team. Their record in 1-goal games is like 19-12, with a 11-7 OT/SO record. If anything, they've already been lucky so getting perfectly timed production from a depth forward who hasn't fit in on any line and has generally been a drag on possession and scoring chances at both ends, would be absurd. By pythagorean expectation, the Oilers probably need 30-35 more goals to get up to the ~36-win level (through 74 games) that the Coyotes have to be tied with the Avs for the final playoff spot. And even that bar is way too low to clear. In the average year, they probably need even a few more wins to get there.
5) Shouldn't this team have grander aspirations than simply making the playoffs? We know that they don't, and that they are desperate to keep fans engaged. This quote took place at a season-ticket holder function, and they are desperate for renewals. So you get the head executive throwing out false statistics, with illogical process, that skewers a specific player as though the fans are dumb enough to buy that shit.
I hope to high hell that Nicholson is capable of hiring someone much smarter and sensible about this stuff as the GM because this was an embarrassing level of incompetence. I realize that he has apologized, but the toothpaste can't go back in the tube. There is a path to redemption, but it can't involve another in a seemingly endless line of **** ups.
Well said @metaldude26
I'll add that blaming rieder was an insult to season ticket holders intelligence.
Blaming anyone is not the path to redemption. Oilers brass need to read a book called 'Extreme Ownership' and learn to take full and complete responsibility starting at the very top. Learn from past mistakes so they don't happen again, it would get alot more sympathy from season ticket holders.
Blaming a single player (regardless of which one) is the most alarming thing here. It tells me they are no where close as an organization to fixing this mess.

Hard to imagine that all of his "10-12 goal" would have been game winners and not in blow outs either way.
