Since 2000, only five defenseman have broken 40 points in their age 20 season. He's on pace for 25 points or so, so only a bit behind the 30-35 we'd expect. He's not shooting like we'd like to see. Sergachev is clearly behind Hedman when healthy and they've been giving McDonough the PP1 time during Hedman's absence. Sergachev's running PP2 for Tampa. He'll get his points, but it seems unwarranted to expect something in the 40s or more this year.

Serg was sheltered pretty heavily last season and got to play a lot of 'fun' minutes. Now he has to start getting down to business and I'm not surprised his production is down. 40pts as a rookie defenseman is rare and very tough to replicate as their role increases.
