2 Questions
1) Does he get traded before trade deadline?
2) To where and for whom?

I'd be shocked if he got traded before the deadline.
These types of players usually get traded in the summer when teams can maximize their return. I'd actually be very surprised if they traded him at all.
No. Big fish like that, in the primes of their career, don't move at the deadline. They move at the draft, if at all. That way at least, all teams bid, not just playoff bound teams.

If Karlsson it's before deadline day or sometime around the draft. It won't be on deadline day because meaningful things don't happen on that day anymore. Yet most fans will still fall for the marketing and complain afterwards.

I say no he doesn't get traded at the deadline.. If Karlsson goes to Sens management and asks to be traded or says he isn't resigning, then he might get traded this summer!!

I dont think it's out of the question he gets dealt. If a team is going to give up assets for him they will want two runs at the playoffs with him, not next years playoffs. It will be interesting to see if the Sens can get someone to bite on Bobby Ryan's crappy contract with Karlsson.

He won't be dealt before the deadline. Maybe at the draft, because it's more beneficial for the Sens as they will know exactly where the draft pick is they would be getting back.
Just say they make a deal with the Islanders and the first rounder is included. The Islanders right now would be picking around 11th, or they could win the draft lottery and get a top three pick. Or they could make the playoffs, and go on a deep run and that pick wind up being 28th overall.
It's better for the Sens if they know exactly where that pick is and its value. The worst thing for them would be to trade Karlsson for first round picks that turn out being very low.

As Tampa has only 2mill in cap space some creative movement would need to be done if they were a team who'd be involved with EK.
Something like:
To Tampa:
Karlsson (0.405834mill retained)
B.Ryan
To Ottawa:
Sergachev
Raddysh
Yan
Callahan (waives NTC)
Girardi (waives NTC)
1st round 2018 pick.
Tampa buys out B.Ryan, to gain about 2mill in cap space, or they keep him and stay RIGHT on the 75mill cap. Ottawa gets a 1st round pick which they don't have anymore, they get a top prospect (Sergachev), they get bodies (Callahan/Girardi), and they get some B-list-ish prospects (Yan Raddysh). I personally don't think Tampa would really entertain a trade for EK as I just don't really see a massive need for him, but crazier things have happened.
