Gostisbehere / Carlson / Barrie

Hi,

In my keeper league, I'd like to keep one defencemen and it's between Gostisbehere / Carlson / Barrie. I looked at Dobber's point projections and Gostisbehere is a little higher for points this year, the 3YP and upside are the same and the keeper rating is a wash.

Do you agree that I keep Gostisbehere ?

I'm not wild about any of those three. If I was in your shoes, I'd trade your best forward that you won't retain, plus whichever of those three the other GM wants most, and get a better D to retain in return. Someone probably has more than they want/need to retain, so you'll be solving their problem and yours all at once.

I personally prefer Carlson of the 3 here but they are all very close and have their pros and cons. I think Carlson would get you the most production but Ghost has the best name value and could land you a better return in a trade down the road so you can't go wrong there between those two. I like Barrie as well but the Colorado factor is enough to keep him a notch below the other two.

Ghost for me -- he had a mediocre year last year with a couple healthy scratches and terrible puck luck and he still outscored the other two. If his shooting percentage bounces back even half to what it was the year prior, he's the winner here methinks.

I would take Carlson buy a fair margin. Think Ghost is a wildcard with little skill outside the top PP. I know that sounds harsh, but I just haven't seen him learn the overall NHL game that well yet IMO. There is a reason he has so many healthy scratches to his name. That said, even without Ghost's wildcard status, I think Carlson has a great season this year. I would take Carlson hands down.

Barrie is 'barried' on an underwhelming Avalanche squad and though I see a better season out of him this year I still think it will only be mid to high 40's.

I like them all TBH and I see it as a bit of a crapshoot. I can see why you made the post. Carlson has to be the logical favorite but in reality I think they could finish next season in any order.

Considering how awful Colorado was last year, Barrie actually had a pretty good season. But he's on the worst team (Philly is giving them some pretty good competition in that regard though).
