This so perfect in it's simplicity. Make it happen.
I've seen this float around the Twitterverse all day. No idea the likelihood of it. I don't really get it myself, unless Drouin wants out of TBay and TBay wants to keep Galchenyuk as a winger. But then that creates a big hole down the middle for MTL (still)

Hearing a lot of rumblings that a Drouin/Galchenyuk swap is coming...I'm no tradebreaker, so take it for what it's worth.https://twitter.com/mckennaconor/sta...87195945799681Conor McKennaVerified account @mckennaconor 1h1 hour ago
Replying to @mckennaconor
again, nothing definitive, but sounds like the Habs would be packaging a first with Galchenyuk in the deal.
Edit: Please add rumour after the title. I missed the word apparently haha

Drouin RFA, age 22
Gally, RFA, age 23
Both had their best yrs last yr (Gally cut short, and tailed off hard).
If Montreal does this I would love it.
I am a Leaf fan.

Well this would really allow Bergevin to address his biggest need this summer an upgrade at C.

French Canadian player who quit on team for half a season to Montreal?? I dunno about loving this for him.
I don't think the trade proposal is all that bad.
Sometimes a young player just needs a change of scenery to really break-out (Seguin, for example).
I think Drouin is going to bust out next year regardless of where he is.
(Being closer to home is always fun for player/team).
Galchenyuk, hmmm, I think Montreal just isn't the place for him.
And maybe a lesser hockey-city spotlight (TB) with a mentor like Yzerman is good for him.
One (possible) thing to take away from all this is the Montreal center situation.
If they are serious about moving Galchenyuk for a winger, it suggests:
i) That they are intent on making an offer for a free agent center,
ii) That they plan to make more trades to bring in a good free agent center,
iii) That they are just fine with a C1/C2 of Plekanec and Danault.
iv) Other.
I stated it a few times last year... but I really, really like Philip Danault.
I see sort of an inferior Patrice Bergeron there (probably the P-name and the FOW-prowess and the french connection... but he's a solid two-way center).
It's possible Habs management has realized that Danault is the type of Bozak-ian C that will stay-at-home and can let the wingers loose.
And so maybe they are willing to ride him if they kind find the right dynamic of wingers.
Some late-1st rounders, especially centers, are late bloomers.
Danault is former late 1st rounder by CHI, brought in for Weise/Flash near deadline in 2016.
So this is what I've chosen to read into this.
And for Galchenyuk... maybe he is better suited on wing.
Or maybe TB can use Galchenyuk(L)/Stamkos(R) in the same way that SJ has used Thornton(L)/Pavelski(R) for strong-side draws.
Probably standard summer rumour fodder... but still fun to overread these situations for their impact on trickle-down pieces.

Adding a 1st to Galchenyuk is a bad idea.
