Where do you expect that 1st to end up? Top-3? Top-5? Top-10. Can't really say much without a ball park guess of where you think that pick could wind up...
I went after Montour, and they've countered with Montour and a 2018 fourth for Howden and a 2018 first. Worth it, in a points only? Or is a first too valuable?

Sorry, I'm new to the team so I'm not really sure. I think probably in the 5-10 range? It's a rookie-only draft, since it's a dynasty league.

Id counter with
Montour for Howden and a 2018 second.
Agree with Mr Guru - do need some context for your team and aspirations this year. If you are contending, meaning that pick is late, and you need the depth to get you close then I'd do It but that's a lot of ifs
Experience is the teacher of all things.
^^ DISAGREE! (Respectfully of course Mr. Guru)
Montour is a hot property right now. If you want Montour and that is what the other GM wants in return (to park an asset in the 2018 ROOKIE draft) then take it. Don't haggle over the *minutia (synonyms: details, niceties, finer points, particulars, trivia, trivialities).
As it stands:
- It's a rookie-only draft, dynasty league.
- Montour and a 2018 fourth for Howden and a 2018 first
@ OP - You started your post with, "I went after Montour, and they've countered with... ". It wasn't the Montour GM's idea to trade him in the first place. Ask yourself, "If the Montour GM shopped him could he get a better return than what he just offered me?" I think that the answer is a resounding, "Yes. Hell Yes". You just wormed your way into being the market leader. This is exactly what you wanted, no? Accept and don't look back. What you just gave up isn't on an NHL roster until 2019/20 at the earliest. Montour would be playing in game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final if his team were still playing and he most certainly will be playing meaningful minutes in the NHL next season.
* I had to look it up. Thought I would share. Knowing is half the battle. Go Joe!
- I said... "God damn this tablet is heavy!"
Very very rarely is it a bad idea to counter.
I ended up getting Montour and Bjorkstrand for Chychrun, Howden and a 2017 second. Whadda ya think, in a points only?

Great trade.
yup, great deal. very good chance that in a few years we'll be talking about Montour as one of the top fantasy hockey defencemen, especially in point-only formats.
It sure I'd go that far but BJorkstrand is a nice piece as a 'throw in' and could be the best piece of the whole deal
Experience is the teacher of all things.
FWIW, I would not have traded my Montour for that return, but Chychrun can become an important piece for the Yotes sooner than later. Nonetheless, you got the best piece coming back so enjoy your prize !

I think Chychyryn is already an important piece but with OEL, Goligoski and ADA as pp options he is likely to have more value in multi cat leagues than points only IMO
Experience is the teacher of all things.
I think he's above DeAngelo (although ADA may become a 1-trick pony and eat up most of the pp time) in the depth chart but he's stuck behind Goli. As soon as Goligoski's contract is done or if he gets moved prior to the 2020-21 season in the next 4 seasons, JC becomes a top-pairing D for the Coyotes.
Montour on the other hand should have a bigger role come this year but I still think his big break comes in 2018-19 so their potential rise to stardom can begin at around the same time. I guess the expansion draft where the Ducks may be forced to part with 1 or 2 d-men will tell us more on Montour's projected rise...

What has Brandon Montour done to be valued so high all of a sudden? Is it because he had so many points in the AHL? How many points did Fowler have in the AHL...ZERO. Lindholm? 11 in 44 games as an 18 year old.
Montour is a 23 years old and has 13 points in 44 NHL games which is a 24 point pace for 82 games. He was the number 5 dman for the Ducks in the playoffs while being their 4th most used PP option. 2 of the Ducks' dmen were also playing with only 1 good shoulder. Yes the Ducks are going to lose a dman this summer but that still leaves Montour as at best the Ducks #4 dman behind 3 of Lindholm, Fowler, Vatanen, Manson and Montour may or may not be better than Theodore. How many points are people expecting for next season for Montour? My guess is about 25
I would much rather have Chychrun than Montour even in a points only league. The OP's trade may not end up being that bad as Bjorkstrand will likely end up being the best player in the deal.
