It's funny how we see these contracts and say >> "wow that's not much at all".. HaHa..
I would take that for 10 seasons in the NHL!!
Told Sam Gagner's deal with #CBJ - likely to be made official today - is one-year, $650,000.

I know Gagner's game took a step back but he's 26 years old with six 40+ points seasons. He seems like a great value in cap leagues IMO.
Good old NHL, Matt Martin signs for 4 years but Kris Versteeg can't get a decent offer.

Good signing; if it doesn't work out he can be shipped to the AHL and the cap hit buried. From a $5 million salary to $650k - that has to be very eye-opening for the kid. If he doesn't make something of it this year, he could be European bound. Lots of incentive for Gagne to perform this year.
Rumours other teams are now in on him too now?

sounds like he'll be given good minutes, something he likely wouldn't have gotten on other teams. this could be his last NHL contract so he's sacrificing $$$ for a chance to continue his NHL career (and earn even more $$$)."We don't have a right-handed shot at center," Kekalainen said. "We don't have a right-handed shot who can play on the half-wall (on the power play) other than Oliver Bjorkstrand, and he's just coming into the league.
my guess is 3rd line C/RW + 2nd PP unit. could be a good sleeper considering you could get him at the end of most drafts
Aren't those the same reasons Philly signed him?
CBJ is about to find out that he's a terrible center, the same things the Oilers and Philly found out.
Won't take long for Tortorella to focus on the negatives

If anything I think it means Bjorkstrand definitely gets those minutes now...

you mean like how bobrovsky was a terrible goalie in philly, and then he won the vezina in columbus?
he was misused in philly, and when you're contract is that expensive you have much higher expectations. 40pt player for most of his career, and by the sounds of it he'll be given good oppurtunity and good wingers to play with (Assuming he sticks at C, which is columbus' biggest hole).
i highly doubt he signed with columbus to play on the 4th line, so if he centers foligno + hartnell and gets decent pp time he could get back up to that 40pt range. and at near league minimum salary i'd definitely consider him a sleeper in deeper leagues.
