Beginner in Keeper Leaguer w/ 1st pick advice pls
Hi all,
This is my first post in this forum and it has been really informative to say the least.
Everyone seems to speak about the consensus top 3 picks (Sid, AO, Malkin). Now I\'m sort of a enviable dilemma. I am about to begin in a new keeper league with 12 teams and I got the first overall pick!
Now since it is an inaugural draft we are using a snake format this season. That means I will not get a chance to pick again until the 24, 25 selection. I guess my question is should I take a tender instead of the Big 3? Like Luongo?
I was thinking about shopping my pick but it\'s Sid/AO/Malkin but at the same time I\'ll be screwed in the goaltending department.

Unless G, A, and PTS are not counted in the league...you go with any one of the big 3. I\'d say Sid...it\'s no contest. Plenty of decent goalies will be there at 24 and/or 25. The gap between Sid (and AO and Malkin) and the rest are too huge...just too huge.

Definitely one of the big 3 first. That setup heavily favours AO.
The only time you might consider a goalie there is if there are close to the same number of goalie scoring categories as there are skater ones. Here goalies are 4/11, which isn\'t enough to bump the big 3 from, well, the top 3.

How does it \"heavily\" favor AO? I don\'t get it...wouldn\'t it favor the big 3...or at least Sid and AO equally?

being fw position only I go with crosby. Ovy for goals, Crosby for assists and a bit more pims. Crosby should put up a few more points as well if they both stay healthy. Goalie cats are only 4/11, if they were heavily weighted a case could be made for luongo but they arent.

That setup favors one of the big three for sure. You\'ll hear endless debate over who the best of the three is but you might as well go with your gut- who do you like the most?
For me its Crosby because I already have him in 3 leagues but if I had just started this year- I might go OV...

I\'d say it favours Ovy, but let\'s look at a reasonable projection for those categories:
G, A, +/-, PIM, PPG, PPA, GWG
Ovy: 60G, 50A, +25, 40PIM, 15PPG, 20PPA, 7GWG
Sid: 40G, 80A, +20, 75PIM, 10PPG, 30PPA, 3GWG
I give the edge to AO there, but it\'s not by that much. If you counted shots it would be a landslide...
