I actually think it's good trade. Grig was slowly melting away in the AHL - was never going to compete up the middle with the Sabres depth and was a KHL risk. I hear Zadarov, while good on the ice, is a complete goofball off the ice. And the 31st is trade-able...

ROR is going to speed up the rebuild and fit in real nicely in the top 6. Kid is really a man, one of the best 2-way players in the game, can play any position, PP, PK, and has already established himself as a leader at his young age.

Disagree- imho anyways. Grigs is enigmatic and a flight risk. I like Zadorov- but these pieces are a steal for ROR. Too much O'Reilly hate on these boards- again imo. Hes a rock solid number 2 and the perfect insulator for Eichel. Also brings the right intangibles as well- contract issues aside.

Zadorov will be the best player in the trade. That doesnt even include who they will get at 31.

Agreed. Grigs is Hodgson w/out the loss of false hope. I love Zads but you have to pay for a guy like ROR and you move strength to address weakness. The pick...? Pfft

that's why you stockpile prospects, so you can make a trade like this. good deal for BUF, accelerates the rebuild a little. was always going to be a little painful with both Zads and Risto learning on the blueline. O'Reilly can play the toughest minutes to let them shelter Eichel and Reinhart a little more. and they have more than enough young guys still to cover the loss of Grigs and Compher.

The contract demands that forced Colorado to trade Ryan O'Reilly have surfaced.
According to an NHL source O'Reilly was demanding a contract similar to Phil Kessel's, eight years and $64M. Considering that Matt Duchene currently hits the cap the hardest for the Avalanche at just $6M per, and O'Reilly being a sub-point per game player, it's plain to see why Colorado made the deal.
