Shanny wants Kessel out of TO
The Toronto Maple Leafs are willing to take back some salary in a potential Phil Kessel trade.
The asking price for Kessel will be high, but the Leafs are willing to give teams another incentive for making a trade. Toronto is beginning a long rebuild and they don't mind taking on a bad contract if it means they can get a great package of picks and youngsters for their veterans. Despite a tough 2014-15 season, Kessel remains an elite goal scorer at the NHL level.

Retaining salary + willingness to take on a bad contract is a great strategy for the Leafs in dealing Kessel. It's definitely going to improve the overall package they can get for him, and with the financial flexibility I would expect the Leafs to get a really good return. Perhaps something in the neighborhood of what the Hawks want for Sharp: Forward on ELC, 1st rd. pick, and a prospect.

the willingness to eat some of the contract opens up so many more options .
for 8.0 , I want the total package in a player (the skill + the leadership)
if you get phil for 6.0 you can overlook the warts
