It's a way of limiting his actual destinations. He also put Chicago and NYR on his list. No way they're trading for him.
An interesting team on Phil Kessel's list of approved destinations is reportedly the Boston Bruins.
Toronto was able to pry Kessel from Boston after the Bruins were unable to sign the restricted free agent. It would certainly be dramatic if the Maple Leafs traded him back to Boston now that they're looking to rebuild, but the likelihood of it actually happening is remote. Boston could certainly use a goal scorer like Kessel, but the squad isn't in a position to assume his $8 million annual cap hit. Certainly, it's always possible for a general manager to make space if the situation warrants it, but it would be a daunting challenge and likely involve substantial sacrifice. It just doesn't seem likely for that reason.

i think guys with NTC often submit lists of teams they have very little chance of getting traded to.
boston has no cap space and is a divisional rival, almost no chance toronto trades him there. so now his 8 team list is really a 7 team list. and then you add Montreal to the list, and it goes to 6, etc.
ewww stay away.

Interesting to note that all these teams are original six teams + PHI/PIT/LA.
Major, major markets.
And there's MIN... where Kessel (like Vanek, Ballard, Paul Martin) was a Golden Gopher.
I think a lot of these teams are shot on the pieces to get Kessel.
Obviously, MIN has to sort out their goalie situation first.
But would they offer up one of Granlund/Coyle + el Nino Neiderreiter + FuturePicks for Kessel.
MIN is so close to being at the top of the West they can sniff it.
Unfortunately for them, with their veterans, their window will expire with so many vets: Parise, Koivu, Pom, Vanek, Suter...
They certainly have the actual funds to get it done, that arena sells out every game.
It would surely bump up MIN's scoring... without hurting their defense.
It would be another US player in the MIN lockerroom... and the $8m cap hit fits him in well with Parise/Suter as "the core".
Think they can get Rask and Hamilton back? LOL

Angus is my best friend at dobberhockey..
Did no one see that you can use only Kessel’s on a team in NHL14 and win the cup? That video is hilarious, and should be used in trade talks for sure. I can’t find the video, but the guy made the whole team Kessel and taped his road to the cup lol.
“What? Uncoachable? Look at this, do you really think uncoachable can win a cup?”
