Default Trade offer ... Need opinions

16 team HH league. Cats as follows: G, A, Pts, SOG, H&B, TOI, +\-, PIM, STP (PPP & SHP)

Been offered a trade to move up in the draft. The trade is as follows

I give - 6th overall pick and Teuvo Teravainen
I receive - 3rd overall pick and Carl Soderberg

Would probably select Strome at third if I make this deal. Feel after the top 4, there is a drop off in elite talent in this years draft (still great talent but not in the realm of the top 4). Hate to lose TT but feel even when he hits his prime he won't fill a lot of the categories (ala Hudler this year). Soderberg is no great cat filler either but feel he is an adequate replacement for TT.

Is this as good as deal I think?

While it somewhat depends on the current state of your team - are you competing now or in a rebuild - overall I like this deal for you if you're going with a prospect with your pick anyways.

In my mind, TT is equal to less than Strome/Marner (once they all hit their prime). So you may be waiting an extra year or two for the payoff but I think you'll at worse come out even... more likely come out ahead here.

Soderberg - and it really does depend where he signs - could be a very decent immediate producer for you. So while you'll lose a bit long-term on this side of the deal (top 10-12 in this draft are all solid imo), you're getting someone who is ready now.

So unless you're in a rebuild, I like Soderberg to outpoint TT next season and I'd prefer Strome/Marner over the option at 6 long-term.

Teuvo's a VERY good prospect in his own right but I'd prefer the top prospect (Strome/Marner) over 2 very good ones (TT/6th pick) with an immediate producer to boot.

Fairly low-risk low-reward move. I say go for it.

I would hold onto TT and the sixth....the third is either Strohme/Marner for most problem is that player is a yote or leaf.....how long do you think it takes until Babcock is gonna give minutes to an 18,19,20 year old......CHI will give TT an increased work load as salary cap dictates roster moves...

What would the 4th overall draft pick cost if you traded your 6th overall?? That way you get Strome/Marner anyway..

TT seems like alot to give up to move up 3 spots..

I'd hold. The slight upgrade in draft position doesn't justify the risk of losing out in TT's upside over Soda's. From 3 to 6,7,8ish is a close call in most people's view anyhow.

So if we look at it like this:

Teravainen and say Zacha or Rantanen (or who ever you like around there, lots of solid options)

    for

    Soderberg and DStrome

I like the Teravainen side. As mentioned by valec, with Soderberg being a FA, there are some question marks for him. Hard to say where he plays next year. Boston isn't in the best of shape for cap dollars and he could walk.

He's capable of playing a 2C role but I see him more as a solid 3C player.

I like the TT/6th side. Obviously, you'd have more control over who you pick at 3 than at 6, but there is still a lot of quality available at 6. I think there's a big enough gap from TT down to Soderberg that in two years this deal will be more obvious that you should keep TT and the 6th.

Seems just a bit too steep to move only 3 spots, especially since TT is well on his way to being a contributing fantasy asset.
