They won't trade him and that's a good thing for the rest of the league as their team is crippled by relying on two big stars and not spreading things out
I think the Blues would take that deal in about one nanosecond.

Malkin for Weber straight-up makes the most sense for both teams. The Preds are loaded on D and Josi is capable of being a true anchor. The Pens could use a franchise D monster like Weber who is capable of scoring 50-60 points and a line of Neal-Malkin-Forsberg would be unstoppable.

They probably should have traded Malkin instead of Staal. The return would have been better and perhaps they would still have some extra draft picks that they desperately need.
It would be VERY wise (with all things being equal) to trade him in my books.
This team has the best player in the world, and a top 5 player in the world, and still make it to the playoffs on the last game of the season? Injuries, yeah I get it....But every team deals with injuries.
They could fetch some great depth for Malkin, and they need it in my books.

Malkin has a full NTC. So he controls his destiny.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.
It could depend on what happens this year. If they lose in the first round again, maybe they figure they need a major shakeup. They've only won one round in the past 11 seasons.
Didn't Staal ask to be traded? Or at least, strongly hint that he was going to leave to go to Carolina to play with his brother?

I think 11 seasons is waay too long a timeframe to judge a team that has the young and promising talent that this one does.
What, are they going to blame Tarasenko, Schwatrz, Shatts, Piets, Steen, Stastny, and Oshie for the playoff struggles going back over a decade? No, I believe that they'll stay the course here.
Last season's deadline acquisition of Miller tells me that their primary concern is in goal, and that's what I expect that they'll address if they're an early exit this year.

They do indeed have Jake Allen. I'm aware of that and everything I've said is with him in mind. He's even on my team.
That doesn't change the fact that they went after Miller and later still they signed Brodeaur when Elliott went down. That tells me they have concerns about Allen being able to carry the load at this point.
Clearly they see Allen as their goaltender of the future. But their recent moves make me believe that they see that future as still being a year or so removed.
If they do go with Allen in the playoffs, it won't be because that was their preference. It will be because they've decided that they can no longer trust Elliott.
