    Default Adam Larsson

Somebody in my keeper's league is putting Larsson on the market, for almost nothing in return.

Do you think there is still hope for him? Does he have a good upside still?

    Thanks!

I feel that he still has good upside. He wouldn't be the first highly touted young defenseman to take longer than expected (or hoped) to reach the potential scouts saw in him at 16-17 years old. Look at Hedman for example. I'm sure he could've been had for "almost nothing in return" a couple of seasons back. You have to figure out what exactly this "almost nothing" the other GM expects back is and go from there.

If you are in a deep league, he is worth a shot, especially for next to nothing. I certainly wouldn't give up much to acquire him.

I will be honest and say that following him before he was drafted, he was one of the best prospects I had ever seen. I am completely shocked that he hasn't done anything significant in the NHL yet.

I think he's still too young to disregard and still can have some value, but if you are buying, I wouldn't pay much for him.

He's a gamble for sure, but if the price is right, he could pay off in time.

If he is going to reach his potential, he'll need to get our of Jersey first. I'm worried the Devils ruined this guy.

I agree, his style isn't what the devils wanted and have continually tried to get him to change to their system. Some players can do it, but others can't and need a new team to make things work. He could be like hedman and finally click or be like Runblad and just flounder. Still keeping an eye on him as he is on waivers in my league.

I know it is HockeyBuzz, but this isn't a rumor and FWIW, I find that some of the bloggers on the site are decent writers and know a thing or two about hockey. Anyway, this guy who covers the Devils wrote a glowing piece about Larsson, and based on what he is saying, this sounds a lot more like the Larsson I watched before he was drafted. Let's hope he has turned a corner on his NHL career. He truly was (is) an elite talent and is still quite young.

Something definitly changed since he came back to the line up. I picked him up off waivers just yesterday. In his last 3 games: 2 assists, +3, 5 sog, 6 hits, 10 blks, over 23 min ice time, over 2 min pp time. He's like the defensive anchor in NJ this past week.

Interesting piece here. Picked him up for a short-term add with back-to-backs the next 2 nights. There might finally be a light at the end of the tunnel for him.

Hasn't he done this before? I haven't followed him too closely but I feel like he's teased us with this before and then fallen off again.

NJ lost 3-0 yesterday and Larsson was even +/- with 6 blocked shots and over 22 min ice time. He hasn't really made any defensive mistakes yet since coming back. Definitely keep a close eye on him, cause he could be the vanguard for the new young def in Jersey.

22 years old...that's it. For a dman especially, we haven't seen ANYTHING from him yet. What was Hedman doing at 22 years of age?

Ok, I've said it before that before he was drafted, there wasn't a prospect out there I was more excited about. I saw him play quite a bit (live) before he was ever drafted in the NHL, and he was doing things that I had not seen from any other dman his age. He was often playing on the same ice as Hedman, Ekman-Larsson, Karlsson, Rundblad, Erixon, Brodin, etc., but more often than not he was the best of the bunch. I admit I have hardly watched him play since he was drafted (does anyone really watch all that many New Jersey games), but I have been extremely disappointed that his pre-draft potential hasn't (yet) translated to NHL success. New Jersey desperately needs a #1 dman and they are just begging for Larsson to step up. I don't know if he is finally ready to do so, but the potential is certainly there. He is starting to get the opportunity that he wasn't getting before, and is actually making the most of it. He is getting top minutes and some must needed PP time. He certainly hasn't ever gotten that opportunity on a consistent basis since he joined the NHL. Like I said, I haven't watched him play much in the NHL, so for all I know he never deserved more playing time, but based on what he has done since the coaching change, maybe things are finally going to work out for him.
